Philly? Phooey! (Philly's the past. Phoenix is the future.)

W.C. Fields said it best: Better there than dead - but not by much.

There's a reason a half-million people have left Philadelphia over the last 50 years.

They don't want to be there.

This is not some new phenomenon. W.C. Fields would pick Philly only if the alternative was internment.

Actually, the taxes aren't particularly high on individuals. The main problem is that you get ZIPPO in services for them.

Gouldens Spicy brown

Know your audience. People from Arizona have never heard of Gulden's, and they think "Wonder" is about the right consistency for bread. I'm serious. They eat their hoagies/wedges on hot dog rolls. They just don't know any better. It's sad, really.

Bread. I am a bread snob. I grew up in a Jewish bakery in upstate NY and I know bread. I lived in Germany, and for all they do wrong-they have mastered bread.

This chemically laden dried out spongy crap they try to pawn off as bread is not even close to being real bread. And you are right, the people who are native to this area have no idea.

Bread. It's one of my pet peeves.

I hated the heat, and the backwardness of the natives, and the creepy-crawlies, and the gimmicky golf-courses, and the fact that there was no body of water bigger than a tennis court, but it was the bread (or lack thereof) that made me want to leave. Arizona sucks. There's a reason why people don't live in deserts if they can help it.

I think you're confused. That's the average IQ.

And its all $12 per entree!

Actually we call that low-end here in NY. I pay more than that for a corned beef sandwich sometimes. :)

I lived 3 years in Philly and my family now has a winter home in Scottsdale so I've seen both. I would pick Philly in a heartbeat.

I like arts, ethnic neighborhoods, history, and a bumping night life. I hate golf courses, grass lawns, SUVs and shopping malls. I don't mind a little dirt and noise if authentic culture comes with it. Enough said.

High end food, like high end wine, is not worth the multiplier in price vs. quality. I'll stick to the $12 establishments, which is most of them.

This is scary it looks like I have to take your side on this. Anyone who lives in or around Philly knows why people are leaving. The food is one of the things that keeps people around. I never lived in Pheonix but I can't stand the hot weather, whether it is a "DRY HEAT" or not. I'll take Philly please. Best place to buy fresh pretzels is the Pretzel Factory on Frankfort Ave in the NE.

I don't mind a little dirt

This one is a laugh, and I don't know how it persists in this thread. Phoenix is the city with a smog problem, not Philly.

That's just because you don't know any better. Ignorance is bliss.
