[history]
California high school seniors will not need to pass a high school exit exam to earn their diplomas in 2004 and 2005, but state officials have promised the new requirement will return for the Class of 2006.
The state Board of Education decided unanimously Wednesday to put the exam, a key element of the state's accountability system, on hiatus for two years.

>>>"We did not have a lot of time to prepare for these tests. That's just my opinion," said Jessica Cuevas, an incoming Fullerton High senior who was relieved with the decision because she failed the math section. "They just like they sprung it on us." <<<
She failed the math section? With that sentence structure, I'm surprised she passed the English section!

I'd rather not pay for endless ineffective schooling for illegal immigrants anyway.
Too bad they don't have an entrance exam for CA universities, if they did the Mexican studies would all "wither on the vine" and our taxes might drop too.

This doesn't tell the whole story. From what I have heard, the NEA successfully dumbed down the test, gave the students SIX opportunities to pass it, and only required a 50% or 60% correct to get a passing score and almost 40% STILL couldn't pass it.

She didn't have a lot of time? Twelve years weren't enough? (With the liberal teachers in CA, it probably isn't)

Hey now, if you're gonna start using percentages, they'll never pass the math test!

I should think right now that hundreds if not thousands of "education" personal should be fired immediately. If Californians tolerate this disaster, then they deserve every single moron produced by these morons. I just got my hands on a couple of the questions they flunked:
Q. What's a sadist?
A. Beats hell out of me!.
Q. Can you name two personal pronouns?
A. Who, me?

One of the questions was "Jim got 4 out of 5 answers correct, what percentage was that?" One would assume that someone with a (good)high school education could answer the question (80%). California should thank God for Mississippi and the District of Columbia (which, by the way, spends more per capita on students than any other area)otherwise we would be dead last in education.

"...state officials have promised the new requirement will return for the Class of 2006." Looks like they're giving the teachers two years to cram for it.

"giving teachers 2 years to cram for it"
I thought it was the students who were taking the test - not the teachers ...?? The way you worded it - you made it sound the opposite.
