The Bible is a series of 66 books written by approximately 40 authors, over a time period of about 1,500 years. In the Old Testament we find an account of the Lord working in and through a nation. In the New Testament, we see the Lord working in and through a Man: Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.

Abraham Lincoln said: "I believe that the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book."

George Washington said: "It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible."

Thomas Carlyle said: "The Bible is the truest utterance that ever came by alphabetic letters from the soul of man, through which, as through a window divinely opened, all men can look into the stillness of eternity and discern in glimpses their far-distant long-forgotten home."

Martin Luther said: "I study my Bible as I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree that the ripest might fall. Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, shake each branch and every twig. Then I look under every leaf"

Inspiration: God gave the message to the writers and prophets who received and recorded it. "to breathe upon or into something"

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

"No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:20-21).

Canonization: How the books were collected, recorded, accepted, authenticated, and handed down. How different books were found to be "inspired." Written by a prophet or apostle, confirmed by God & His people, reveal truths about God.

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, have seen with our eyes, looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life..." (1 John 1:1-2)

Transmission: How later generations handed the texts down. Copied, translated, recopied, retranslated assuring an accurate rendition.

Translation: Copying from one language to another. Literal translations, versions, paraphrases...

FIVE REASONS WE CAN TRUST THE BIBLE

1. Jesus taught that the Scriptures were the Word of God.

"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me... if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me... but if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

2. The Bible supports its own claim of being the Word of God.

3. Undeniable and accurate prophesy.

4. The Bible's miraculous preservation.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away"
(Matthew 24:35).

5. Its ability to change lives.

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God"

I don't understand this comment, because true real science in fact proves what is WRITTEN in the WORD.

Genesis that word means "Beginning" and there is much, much more there than what is taught. Genesis sets the foundation upon which the rest is WRITTEN. What we uncover today in stones, tilting of the axis of the earth, and many other things in science proves what is WRITTEN.

We are told of what was created and yet no specific time frame is given. We are told of a happening to that creation and then another creation, this time with a flesh man in OUR image. "LET US make man in OUR image and OUR likeness" so who is this "US" and "OUR"? This flesh man was to "replenish" the earth.

We are given a base for what is WRITTEN in Genesis that is spoken about in later books, and without a full understanding of what is WRITTEN in Genesis the rest cannot be understood. IIPeter 3:5&6 Isaiah 45:18 Jeremiah 4:22-27 are but a few places that refer back to Genesis I.

There is a reason why it is WRITTEN not all have eyes to see and ears to hear, they don't understand Genesis.

It surprises most people to find out that the entire Bible can be read in a mere 70 hours at an average reading rate. I have a friend who considered himself to be a Christian, but had never really read the Bible in its entirety. So when he had a week off from school he started one weekend and read through the following week and weekend and finished the Bible. He said it changed his life.

I'm a strong advocate for reading whole books of the Bible in one sitting, preferably out loud as you retain more if you hear it as well as read it. The longest book I've read in one sitting was Luke and that took slightly over 2 hours to complete.

I agree and understand...but the evolution religion does not acknowledge anything you wrote, except to be 'myth' or something...maybe 'culture' or 'history'...

It comes from the fact that no one can find a reference for the quote. That's why I asked for one. From what I've heard, David Barton admitted that he didn't have a source for the quote when he first started spreading it.

Again, do you have a reference for the alleged Washington quote? You could easily make a fool out of me if you do.

I found the quote posted, in quotes, on the harvest.org web site. They are a reputable, accountable organization. Not an unseen, invisible individual on the internet.

Okay, so you want me to put up a little bit. You're the one who presented the quote, so you should be the one researching its validity, but I'll go ahead and point out a few sources that question its authenticity.

Saying that it comes from harvest.org and then saying that harvesst.org is a "reputable, accountable" organization is not the same a providing a citation. It does not answer the question of when or where Washington supposedly made the statement or for what reason he made it. Do note that the statement is often attributed to his Farewell Address, but a simple word search of the actual text of the address turns up neither the word "God" nor the word "Bible".

Reading one Book at one sitting works. One thing that amazed me was that when I set out to read the entire Holy Bible, "things" happened to distract/stop me - they didn't prevent me from finishing, but they provided personal evidence/proof that the adversary is real. FReegards!

In other words, you tout the quote as true simply because I can't prove it false, shifting the burden of proof unfairly onto me, when you're the one presenting the questionable quote.

Clearly, you're not interested in intelligent and honest debate. You're willing to use any lies that you can find to prop up your position, and you simply yell at anyone who points out that your quotes might be less than accurate because they cannot prove authoratitively that they might not have been uttered (nevermind that YOU don't bother to present any evidence that the quotes are real).

No, you're the one asserting that Washington made the quote without any attribution. I'm asking for evidence. You make the claim, you back it up with evidence.

Unless you think that it's okay for me to "quote" you admitting to various criminal acts and justify it by saying that you cannot prove that you never made the statements?

You will use ANY thing you can to deny God.

This has nothing to do with any Gods. This has to do with the fact that you will use questionable quotes to prop up your position and then throw a temper tantrum when someone dares ask for evidence that the quotes are real, insisting like a child that they prove a negative. You clearly are without honesty or integrity, and I'm through with you.

It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.  Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters.  Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion.  Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
