Protect Arizona NOW launches initiative to restrict benefits to Citizens & legal residents

Posted on 07/09/2003 8:34:19 AM PDT by Boomer2

On July 8, 2003, the non-partisan citizens' group Protect Arizona NOW launched its initiative to reform voting and public benefits in Arizona. The initiative, viewable at the Protect Arizona NOW 2004 website would do two things:

(1) Require proof of citizenship to register to vote and proof of identity when voting, and
(2) Require proof of citizenship or legal residency when requesting state taxpayer-funded services.
The group will need to collect 122,612 signatures of registered voters by July 1, 2004, to qualify the measure for the November 2004 general election ballot.

As expected, supporters of illegal aliens centered their defense on character attacks, including the old ploy of crying "racism" and ad hominem personal attacks (See this story in the Arizona Republic for specific epithets and insults hurled by illegal alien supporters).

Opponents to the initiative -- composed mainly of special interest groups such as legislators in high-Hispanic percentage legislative districts and groups and individuals whose livelihood depends on illegal alien immigrant traffic -- held a news conference afterward. It was marked by allowing questions only to two media outlets. Opponents to the initiative refused to accept questions from citizens and others in the audience before hurriedly abandoning the room.

"This is the most ridiculous, outrageous and discriminate petition campaign we've seen in Arizona," Gallardo said.

Yep - it's just as discriminatory as the people at the local theater asking to see your ticket before letting you in to see the movie. Hmmmm - I wonder if I can call them on their discriminatory practices and start seeing movies for free???

Here is a lesson for liberals.
Not Racist = All citizens must show proof of Arizona citizenship to vote in Arizona.
Racist = Hispanics are less capable of showing an ID than whites.
Who here is making a racist argument? Looks like the the usual liberal racism.

The critics said the proposal is so vague that it would apply to every state and local government services. For instance, they said, firefighters and police officers responding to an emergency would have to verify the person's immigration papers before providing assistance.

Liberals are indeed looney.
