*Note* ~ The text for today's thread was submitted to me by nicmarlo several weeks ago. Since then, she has virtually disappeared from FR. I still wanted to present this lighthearted, personal view of life and I hope to hear from dear nicmarlo once again really soon.

Things I've Learned In Life

For the convenience of all skiers on the ski lift, when you get to the top, you're supposed to ski off the lift (rather than have the operator stop the lift, remove your skis, and catch you in their arms).

If you want your car to run, the engine must have oil in it.

You don't need to drive around town to find out if tire stores have the size tires you need; you can call them, instead, if you know that those little numbers on the sides of tires gives you the size.

Never do anything wrong in front of your little brother.

Before you bring your children to the doctor, make sure you tell them not to ask him/her, "How do you know?"

Before you get in a long line to have the grocery store check out your completely full basket, make sure you brought your checkbook.

Before you get to work, check your shoes (and socks) to make sure they match.

Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Things I've learned in life

(for ladies (OR KINKY men) only) Always removed pantyhose and slacks separately.

In a previous life I was a counselor. Had a particularly good session with my client...walked her to the receptionist desk to schedule another appointment where some folks from the state were waiting for a "certification review". Just then my secretary started "coughing" trying to draw my attention to my feet...To my horror I was dragging a pair of panyhose...almost half a leg being exposed. Never lived that one down!

Lots of rain early morning...they were calling for more this afternoon but the sun is out and it's lovely! (boy, I've missed the sun!)

So glad your car story has a happy ending.

Reminded me of an experience I had about 15 years ago. We were at a prosecutor's conference at Kings Island in Cincinatti. Very high traffic area. Mr. D. was golfing and I borrowed one of assistants cars to go shopping. Now I'm not one for traffic or shopping but decided it was time to expand my horizons. BIG MISTAKE

I'm tooling down I70 at about 70mph (with sweaty palms) and, all of a sudden the car starts wierding out. Turned out I had a major blow out (which I never had and in a car I had never driven before) I don't know how...but in heavy traffic I managed to get pull over in get onto the birm. The tire was absolutely shredded!

Next...cars are just zipping past me...was afraid I was going to be hit (it was like 4 lane traffic) plus this is precell phones. I couldn't find a spare (plus wouldn't know what the heck to do with it anyway)...decided to walk to the nearest exit (which I couldn't even see) in weed up to my knees so I would be far from traffic.

Suddenly a car pulls over with a late 20's early 30's nice looking guy who asked if I needed help and he wanted to give me a lift. (he also had Kentucky license plates)

At first I'm like yes...then I heard my mother's voice..never take a ride from a stranger...This was when the Ted Bundy stuff was still big...thought this guys is cute, charming, from out of state (well, duh Cincy is on the Kentucky border but wasn't thinking straight at the time). BUT...then I figured if I DIDN'T take a ride...I'd probaby be hit by a car...the battle raged in my head.

SUDDENLY a highway patrolman pulled over and asked if I was okay. I started crying....said adios to Ned Bundy (Ted's brother) and launched in a diabribe about how this guy was probably a serial killer...I didn't know the area...my husband was a prosecutor...I was going to die....mom always said never ride with strangers...

He found the spare (one of those temporary ones) but said it was policy that they not change them...he could call a wrecker or something. I gave him the most pathetic look he said...well if your husband is a prosecutor...you're one of the good ones...found a towel to kneel on and changed the tire for me...

I only wish I had gotton his name!
