SAN FRANCISCO, July 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) lauded MSNBC's decision to remove Michael Savage's show from the air, following Savage's anti-gay remarks last weekend.
At a taping of his show, Savage reportedly told a gay caller: "You should only get AIDS and die, you pig." According to news reports, these comments prompted MSNBC to fire Savage.
Jonathan Bernstein, ADL Regional Director, said, "We commend MSNBC for taking this matter seriously. By removing hateful rhetoric from the airwaves, they are helping to promote tolerance and safety for all people."
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of hate through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

But, I don't like the ADL sticking it's nose in here either.
If I were Jewish, I would want no part of the ADL anymore than I would want to be associated with Jessie Jackson if I were Black.
It's a shame too. IMO, if he would just take a lesson from Rush and try to educate instead of putting the focus on saying outlandish things to get noticed, he would do allot better.
As it is, if someone doesn't agree with him, he screams things like this "aids" comment in their face, SLAMS down the phone and then spends the next 30 minutes ranting about what an idiot they are.
It's 100% emotional and it does not sound like a recipe for continued success to me.
Other than every social conservative on Free
Republic, I can't imagine anyone thinking that.
It is a parasite found in undercooked meat (like pork).
Get your mind out of the gutter.
Just because the "journalists" neglected to mention it does not change what he actually said.
They're expanding their mission:
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of hate through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry
Having the ADL chase "hatred" around is like having Castro crack down on corruption or Democrats opposing voter fraud.
Katherine Harris alive despite Miami radio host's announcement (hate radio)
Here was an earlier thread (when Drudge just had the brief)KATHERINE HARRIS Death Hoax
"Katherine Harris is dead!" reported Rogers on the air, "I've got the news story right here, it's on the Internet. A plane crash! Yes!!"
Looks like he will be getting a pass. The media double standard continues.
What about also current example?
Cubs manager Baker 'meant what he said' (about white players not taking the heat well)
And this golden oldie from the man who would be President, Albert Gore Junior:
"(North) is banking on the fact that he can raise enough money from the extreme right wingthe extra-chromosome right wingto come in and buy enough advertising to just overwhelm the truth with blatant falsehoods [about Chuck Robb]""The phrase extra chromosome is insensitive and inappropriate and I regret using it," Gore said in a statement issued from Air Force Two, en route from Washington to Chicago. "I did not intend it in the way some heard it, but that is no excuse, and I apologize."
They sure are. The ADL was founded to protect Jews and now they're attacking them. Savage is Jewish.
Well, what's intriguing about Alex Jones is that he never makes a "tin-foil hat" claim that isn't explicitly backed up by a major news outlet. Otherwise I would have long ago dismissed him.
I've also noticed that lately his Internet broadcast gets overloaded - so I think more and more people are discoving him.
The problem I've always had with Michael Savage stemmed from his formation or the "Paul Revere Society". As he was putting that organization together he described an organization that was every bit identical to Free Republic. And yet rather than advocate Free Republic he formed this unnecessarily new organization.
In my mind the only reason could be his personal ego - and I found that to be a real turn-off.
I'd bet dollars to donuts that MSNBC has a 'Standards and Practices' policy that forbids one from wishing death on another. They were fully justified in letting him go. You can get away with a lot more on radio than television.
He would have to since he tossed out a word like trichonosis in the heat of an argument.
AIDS is a politically protected word. It's different than all other manners of death (although a number of AIDS sufferers succumb to something else such as cancer).
No mention need be made to the other 2 manners of death that he wished on the caller. If he had been more restrained he would have told the caller, "drop dead". He still would have been called "mean spirited".
Nina Totenberg wished AIDS on Jesse Helms and/or one of his grandkids and is still on taxpayer supported NPR.
There is a severe double standard, some animals are more equal than others.
Did she really?
