County to round up and gas Canada geese

Thousands of resident Canada geese that have been fouling Union County's public parks and golf courses with their unhealthy and unsightly droppings will be destroyed this week, officials said.

The county is moving into this drastic stage of its geese management efforts only after years of "exhaustive" alternative methods of controlling the burgeoning population of the nonmigratory birds failed, said Charles Sigmund, the county's parks and recreation director.

The goose killings sparked an outcry from the community and animal rights groups that were angered by the method being used to destroy the geese, but county officials said they didn't halt the program because of the controversy. >>>

Finally I thought some politicians had some testosterone but I was wrong, they caved in to a select few. The "community" wanted them killed.

Genesis 9:3
Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.

Man:
Kill the humans (abortion) and save the Bears, the spotted owls, the Canadian Geese and the whales and don't crack that turtle egg!!

You can get fined up to $10,000 for messing with those eggs and baby-killing physicians get paid government and private money $$$ to kill humans! Go figure.

The Endangered Species Act of 1973
http://endangered.fws.gov/esaall.pdf

Page 4 Sec 3 (c)(8) don't crack those eggs, one might end the "life" of a bird, fish or turtle. I guess certain "mammals" (humans) do not apply.

The Govt. recognizes that a fertilized egg from an animal is "alive" and protected by LAW (The Endangered Species Act of 1973) and when in a human, in God's image, it's just a blob of "unlive" protoplasm which can be aspirated if it's the mother's "choice" to do so with no protections under the 5th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution.

What's really ridiculous about this is that 1000 geese & 1700 more yet to be killed were being shipped to landfill instead of being used to feed people.

Well, that's true, too.

And the border collies are going to lose their jobs.

Messy "solution."

From what I hear, they are pretty gross, with barely any meat..just a little dark meat on the breast, and this is not the time of year to eat them.

The filthy things have overrun a local reservoir that people drink from; They terrorize people in nearby company parking lots, and they walk out into traffic, raising feathers and havoc. They are almost too fat to fly from healy-feelies who bring bread to feed them, and they no longer even migrate from here.

(whisper)

It is rumored they love De-Con.

If I ever go to Kanada again, I would be one. Nothing like a Browning 12ga with a choke and goose load.

Turn the local Vietnamese population loose on them. Won't take long. In dallas, they had to be taught early on that ducks and geese running free are not just for their taking. (Same with dogs and cats.) They complied but thought we we were nuts.

I like that solution better, if you're gonna eat them. ;-)

It is also true that the permit to "addle" the eggs is only good up to a certain period of early gestation. After that, you are deemed to be killing a goose, not just addling an egg.
In other words, abortion of the geese is not permitted, they are considered to be a living individual well before hatching.

About Twenty-five years ago, the State of Washington, along with a coastal county, made a deal with Canada to allow them to drop off geese at the area on the south western coast of Washington. As the birds continued to breed, and more geese were brought in yearly, the goose population got out of control. In the late 80's, the Canadians arrived with their shipment and were turned away. They were told there were too many at that location. They got back in their truck, and went back to I-5 and started north again. Next to Fort Lewis and McChord AFB, they saw a sign that read American Lake. They went to the lake, and dumped off the geese. They returned without asking for 3 more years before they were caught. Now the area is overrun with geese, leaving droppings on walkways leading into restaurants, living quarters, and hospitals. It got so bad the Madigan Hospital that Fort Lewis put two swans, they kill geese, in their pond to try to scare the geese away. The geese have the swans hiding in the water and have continued to breed. One of the swans has passed away and the remaining swan still is in the pond.

According to the game wardon, who I got this story from, these birds carry inherent diseases that can poison humans through their waste. They are not protected, nor do they migrate. This health hazard has lasted all these years, and no one has been able to fix it. It will be years before they will be controlled.

"We have tried everything from border collies to chemical spraying and motorized motor boats to deter the geese population, and yet the health threat caused by the birds and the complaints from the public about the mess caused by the droppings have continued to increase," Sigmund said.

Problem solved.

Is there some reason why these geese are not rounded up, butchered and sold, or at least given to a soup kitchen?
