When three teenagers were walking around with guns, swords and 2,000 rounds of ammunition Sunday morning, they were probably play acting and not planning to kill, said the father of one of the teens.
Ron Lovett appeared Tuesday on network morning shows and local news broadcasts and submitted to interviews with print journalists who descended on Camden County community after his son, 18-year-old Matthew Lovett, and two other teens were charged Sunday with conspiracy to commit murder and other crimes.
Other teens in Oaklyn have described Matthew Lovett as someone who didn't fit in, a young man who wore all black clothes, drew disturbingly violent pictures and was obsessed with the movie "The Matrix."

Some parents are blithering idiots. I bet he would accept that explanation of someone else's kid pulled a gun on his kid.

This supports the age-old maxim: "Show me a f---ed-up kid and I'll show you at least one f---ed-up parent."
NOTE TO IDIOT PARENT: You don't "play act" with real guns. Firearms are tools, not toys.

"Matt's basically a child inside," he said. He was 18. At 18 I was half a world away from my parents and making it on my own. I was not a child. Neither is Matt.

Firearms are tools, not toys. Way back, when the world was young and innocent, we used to play "army" with toy or wooden guns. That was at the age of 10, when all of us boys had at least a .410 shotgun in our closets. We would never have considered using our real firearms at play.

Is there no end to the idiots who will defend their children's criminal behaviour? I assume that was a rhetorical question.

Does this mean that when I am riding my horses that I can imagine that I am Gary Stevens or Julie Krone? Give me a BREAK!!!! Is there a parent anywhere that can stand up and tell the world that his offspring is a problem or a freak?

Is there a parent anywhere that can stand up and tell the world that his offspring is a problem or a freak? My elder daughter is a problem, but has moved with her family to California, to be a liberal. My younger daughter isn't a freak, but she dated one for a while.
Both had firearms training courtesy of Uncle Sam, and the younger scored Expert with hand grenades. She likes things that go "boom".
Neither would be likely to go on a rampage. Neither one is perfect, and both have some glaring faults.
So yes. Some parents can confront the truth about their offspring.

would this story be on account of Daddy is 'fraid he'll get skinned for not controlling the weapons at home?
I trust my kids too - but I still have locks on everything that I'm not carrying.

the recent Collingswood High School graduate was also a sucker for the more sensitive film, "The Green Mile," and while he drew violent pictures, he also drew fairies bent over logs, handcuffed, with their wings ripped off.
