Breaking: Man who allegedly met with terrorist Atta has been caught (Iraqi connection to 9/11?)
CBS News' David Martin | July 8, 2003 | myself

Posted on 07/08/2003 3:55:36 PM PDT by rwfromkansas

On the CBS Evening News a bit ago, reporter David Martin broke an exclusive that the Iraqi leader who may have met with Mohamed Atta in Prague prior to his terrorist attack on 9/11 has been caught. It will be interesting to see if he says anything.

As I remembered, the Iraqi intelligence official met with "one of" the hijackers. I think that the press assumed it was atta. I can't be sure now.

Thanks for the clarification however!!!

George Tenet has repeatedly denied this story, but the Czechs have refused to go along with him. Frankly I wouldn't trust George Tenet any further than I could kick him.

Also, the reporters who said the meetings didn't happen are Michael Isikoff of Newsweek and Walter Pincus of the Washington Post and said their information was based on "senior administration official".

You forgot the picture of Helen Thomas...in case he's a tough nut to crack!

NUDE picture of Helen Thomas. You cover everything below the neck with masking tape, hang it outside the cell window, and threaten to remove a little bit of tape each day.

Works every time.

The source of the MSNBC story is Michael Isikoff and his source was an unnamed "senior administration official". The FBI has Atta's travel documents. But Isikoff forgot to tell you what the documents said. On April 4th Atta was in Virginia Beach. He flew to the Czech Republic on April 8. On April 11th he rented a car in Florida. His earlier meeting took place on June 2, 2000 and was in the Prague airport, prior to his flying to Newark, NJ>

No, this story wasn't "debunked" months ago. And what an atrocious hodgepodge of an article that link leads to. I usually have a little respect for Weisskopf, at least.

Anyway, here is something from the Weekly Standard that was just published:

The War Against Bush

Excerpt:

But there are times Atta may have been abroad that are not accounted for in these documents and receipts. And assessments of the reliability of the witness vary, with some high-ranking Czech officials insisting to this day that the meeting took place. It's fair to say the alleged Atta meeting was disputed, but it's hardly accurate to imply that officials were unanimous in their belief that it didn't happen.

Might I point out the above says exactly what I and others have said? Nothing more and nothing less. There's been no proof of the meeting, but no debunking.

I didn't know that he said we were on the wrong side of the war against Castro. Just when I thought he couldn't shock me anymore..... Can't imagine what prompted him to say this. It isn't as though Central America has really fallen to Castro (not that it's an exemplary democracy either) He had to have pissed off some locals.
Do you think that his goal is to be "Global Community Potentate"? I do.

Another important story headed for the "memory hole".

Whew, my mistake--Weisskopf wasn't associated with that shameful mishmash. I see Spikey Isikoff was, though, and that Evan Thomas.

Ack

After every terrorist attack, our spies and all our friends' spies around the world would be tasked to check all their sources to examine exactly that question.

Honor among thieves?

So the spies check their sources and report back, big deal. Like we can assume we're going to get correct info and complete info from a foreign intelligence. These journalists aren't as naive as they want us to believe.

Let's turn these hollow upper floors into a prison. House these little bastards on the top floors with large windows so that they can spend the rest of their days staring out at the greatness of the nation below them.

That's just poetic. I wish it could happen.

Thanks for reminding us of the New York Times lies in your post.

Evidently, more than one reporter makes up stories at that paper.

W waits faithfully for vindication and God rewards his patience; here comes the 4th ace for W to show the doubters. His approval may hit 70% again when this gets into the news bloodstream.

I don't think its a question of "waiting" in the sense of waiting for things to happen. Its more like deciding when to show the cards he already holds. I think alot of these "unknowns" that get discussed on threads like this are known to the administration, some will be released when the time is right, for other things, the real truth will never be known.

This is a good news, bad news story. I'm certain he met Atta in Prague.

The bad news is that now we have to deal with the truth as spooned out by the government. They control the flow.

Both the media and govt. control the flow to an extent and since both don't seem thrilled about letting this out for whatever reason, I doubt it will go very far.

Either someone just loves pouring gasoline on conspiracy theory rumours or there is something the US government seriously wants to hide.

Something like... maybe our departed friend The Great Satan and others are correct and that Saddam was the prime force behind the 1993 World Trade Center attack, 9/11, and the anthrax attacks? I hope this SOB gets worked over like no prisoner of our ever has before.

Out of curiosity, any word yet on whether good old Dr. Hatfill has filed his libel suit against Nick Kristof and the New York Times?
