Safety of children in grocery carts: adults' personal health and safety habits.
Observations of 246 children and the adults accompanying them were carried out in supermarkets. Of those arriving and leaving by automobile (n = 194), 36% of adults used safety belts, and 51.1% of children used safety belts or restraining seats. While shopping, 79% of adults lost sight of the children in their care at least once, and 73.2% were 10 feet or more from their children at least once. 48% of children climbed or attempted to climb from carts; 27% stood in carts, and 23.6% handled hazardous products. 24% of adults purchased tobacco products. Poor adult supervision of children was related to adult's nonuse of safety belts and the child's and adult's ages. Climbing from the cart was related in a logistic regression to both poor adult supervision and child's age. Tobacco purchases were related to handling of hazards by children and standing in carts. Child's age and adult's safety belt use related to the restraint of children in vehicles.

Why don't we go all the way and ban the "people" who produce "shopping carts", and the "steel mills" as well. Notice the obnoxious "quotations", so as not to "offend" anyone, as I may be "sued" for "slander". UGGGGGHHHH! I hate what this country is coming to at the hands of "Liberal" lawyers and the a-holes who follow their wallets...! Can we set up a colony of intelligent people on Antartica, or is there too much litter? :>)

There's a tax in here I'm certain.. More likely a lawsuit or lawsuits which the cost of fighting them will be passed on down to the shopper.
Sue the shopping cart manufactures for making dangerous carts.
Sue the grocery stores for not providing "Child safe" carts
Sue the grocery stores for selling tobacco products which somehow distracts shoppers from watching their kids.

As sarcastic as this thread went, it has really come full circle. Scary in a sense. I was just thinking about the GIGANTIC two seater, plastic jobbers that have been showing up in my wal-marts and costco's around my area...I bet if I dig deep enough, I can find some ordinance for these things.
Shuddering at the thought of yet more legislation that mandate's the basic job of the parent.

My local store has gone to "Kid Friendly" shopping carts. The urchins ride in a car-like cabin underneath the groceries, but totally visible to the parent. It is like a very young kiddie ride in a amusement park. The first time I saw, I was lol.
Did they those pesky researchers (on the dole) look at those carts?

Ya know qam1, The way you laid it out in 22, It won't surprise me to see a posting on this board in the coming months (I dare not say years; I think lawsuits are *gasp* running dry in the ridiculous dept.) that depict your very argument.

Any way you can. (The newer seat belts do help a little)
We called our oldest 'Little Houdini,' because he could get out of any strap, lock, or safety gate.
During one of his check-ups at the pediatrician's office, a family rushed in with their 2 year-old who had fallen out of a shopping cart. This child just kept screaming, it was one of the most dreadful things I've ever heard in my life!
After witnessing that, I was extra cautious when shopping with my little terror, but even then he managed to flip himself out of the cart-with me standing right there! He was incredibly lucky I caught him!
He's now 15 and refuses to sit in that seat anymore. :)

Shuddering at the thought of yet more legislation that mandate's the basic job of the parent. Homosexuals have successfully changed their status in society. They already refer to heterosexuals as "breeders".
How much longer before they petition the legislators to "license" all parents and make them jump through all the hoops that adoptive parents must go through?

re #34
If you had three squeeky wheels, you are in violation. Environmental impact, doncha know..The sparrows are gonna take those squeeks wrong and it will disrupt their environment. You know, those nests they live within of the sign of the supermarket your shopping at? The same supermarket that was also to disrupt the spotted owl and sparrow and the like?

re #35
Does this mean I won't get to wear a burqa for my license photo for Shopping cart safety certification for breeders?
To: unix
That's not fair. I love spotted owls. They taste like chicken.
