NEW YORK - MSNBC on Monday fired Michael Savage for anti-gay comments.

The popular radio talk show host who did a weekend TV show for the cable channel referred to an unidentified caller to his show Saturday as a "sodomite" and said he should "get AIDS and die."

Savage does not, on the other hand, have a constitutional right to keep his job on MSNBC; they can fire him for any reason permitted under his contract.

Wishing for someone's death on air, whether by AIDS, SARS, a jump from the Golden Gate Bridge, stroke, heart attack, or choking, makes for pi$$ poor television and makes most "normal" folk shake their heads and change the station.

I would've fired Savage for being so stupid as to react so violently to an idiot caller. If you're a pro, learn how to respond like a pro, not like some classless half-drunk moron in a barroom argument....

It angers so many here..."gives Conservatives a Bad name",

Yet they love the Rino in the White House and post pictures of him in Cowboy Hats....

You have a problem comprehending the criticisms here and just want to take a gratuitous opportunity to bash the president.

On the contrary, if you find him "odious", I find that to be very sad.

Alec Baldwin publicly wished for the stoning of Henry Hyde AND his family and yet doesn't seem to be blacklisted.

Michael Moore has claimed that Charlton Heston's alzheimers is fake (repeatedly he has claimed this).

How mean spirited does the left have to be to get shunned publicly?

Again, is AIDS a politically protected disease or a homosexual caller a protected class of individual?

The book of Leviticus pretty much puts them in the same catagory as having sex with animals.

The Book of Leviticus also indicates that handicapped people cannot approach the altar of God, because they'd "profane" it.

To say nothing of the clams, oysters, crabs and lobsters which are abominations.

Didn't hear the exact quotation or the context, but telling somebody that they should get AIDS is pretty offensive. I'm waiting to see his own statement before I take a side, but based on this posted article, I think he said the wrong thing, and MSNBC obviously reserves the right to fire him if there's enough of a gay lobby to get him off.

From what version? My version says "bring them out unto us, that we may know them." Is it your interpretation that "know" means "to have sex with?"

The entire Bible uses "To know" as a meaning for having sex. You have to read the book to know that. Just like "Begot" meant to give birth.

Howard Stern doesn't expect to be taken seriously...

Savage doesn't take himself seriously any more than Stern does. He strives to be controversial and laughs at the outrageous things he says. I don't think even he can believe some of the crap he comes up with sometimes.

What's the other Ph.D in -- Communications?

For someone who is so "smart," he comes across as a Neanderthal. He is an embarrassment.

I agree with what he says for the most part, I just hate the way he says it. He's no longer on WABC, (why?) and he just got bounced from his TV show. Doesn't that tell you something?

We need fewer Sliwas and Savages and more people who can discuss pertinent matters with eloquence and sophistication, not with wishes that people get AIDS and die.

Anyway you slice it, the 9/11 hijackers weren't cowards. Deal with it.

Even Bin Laden admitted that not all of the hijackers knew it was a suicide mission. They didn't willfully lay their lives down on the line knowing that they would die (it was just a possibility in the greater mission).

This thread is frightening if it's representative of how many whiney, nervous, hand-wringers are out there on "our" side. It's embarrassing, and more than a little pathetic.

Is Savage pathetic?

He just apologized, profusely, for what he said on Saturday.

IOW, he's trying to be "nice."

Correct. And anyone who doesn't know that the phrase "to know" in the original language means "sexual relations" doesn't know the first thing about the Bible.

Right after what he quotes, in the Bible, he offers up his daughters to the crowd instead of the angels.

What was he offering his daugthers to them for? So they had two more for a golf foursome? (no pun)

Bill Mahr can be very funny, but he can also spout the most ignorant things.

Everyone knows the right will always take heat for actions the left gets a pass on.

Look no farther than Bill Clinton vs Richard Nixon.  There's no question Nixon wasn't even in the same class with Clinton when it came to criminal infractions.  One FBI file was abused under Nixon.  Over 1,000 were under Clinton.  Which administration took heat?

When Bill Maher first came on, it was pretty obvious what his political leanings were, but he was still feeling the waters and his humor cut both ways.  Today Bill has become so obsessed with scurilous attacks of the right, that he seems bitter and one dimensional.  His attitude is course and his mannerisms so bother me that I'll turn the channel if he's on even for a moment.

BS. Savage reacted like a 3rd grader not an adult. That's embarassing. There are a thousand ways to nail someone right between the eyes without wishing for their death in front of a national audience.

It just proves to me that Savage has a strong self-destructive streak in his character.

There's nothing whiney, nervous or hand-wringing about those on "our" side who recognize depraved and hatefilled rantings from diseased minds are NOT what we want to represent us.

Do us all a favor and don't include yourself on "our" side.
