Ty to Commemorate Commissioning of USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) With The Creation of Ronnie(TM) the Bear Beanie Baby(R)
Monday July 7, 8:12 am ET
As you sail out on your way In our hearts you'll always stay And because you're brave and true This special bear is just for YOU!
"We are proud to join the people of Santa Barbara and the United States in celebrating the commissioning of the USS Ronald Reagan," said Ty Warner, CEO/Chairman of Ty Inc. and Beanie Baby creator. "It is important that the men and women who serve on this great ship, as well as all who serve our country in the armed forces, know that we appreciate their dedication."
Former first lady Nancy Reagan stated, "My husband and I are thrilled to be a part of the Ronnie the bear Beanie Baby project that will benefit the men and women who serve aboard USS Ronald Reagan. We are grateful to the Santa Barbara Navy League and Ty Warner for their generosity in bringing this adorable bear to the public. I hope it will find its way into the hearts and homes of thousands across the country."
For the past decade, Ty has created numerous Beanie Babies® to raise funds for many worthy causes, such as: HERO(TM) which was created for the USO; America(TM) the bear, to benefit the American Red Cross in response to 9/11; Princess(TM) the bear, for Diana, Princess of Wales Foundation; Ariel(TM) the bear, for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation; and Issy(TM) the bear, for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research.
The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including elected officials, and to the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families.
The Santa Barbara Council of the Navy League officially adopted USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and is providing support to the thousands of sailors who will serve aboard the ship during its 50 years of service to the nation. Such support includes ship enhancements designed to improve the quality of life for sailors during deployment, crew awards which recognize top performance and the creation of an endowment fund to help support families of crew members in the event of a tragic loss of life at sea. Named after Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) will be the ninth Nimitz class aircraft carrier in the US fleet. Being nuclear powered, it can operate for 20 years without refueling.

Back on April 10th of this year, I started a thread on Ty Inc.'s "Hero" beanie that was released in support of our troops in Iraq (with all profits going to the USO).
The body of the message I posted was thus:
Quoting from the Ty web site: In support of the USO proudly serving the Men and Women who server our country! 100% of Ty's profits from the original purchase of the Hero Beanie Baby will be donated to the USO. The poem with these bears reads simply:
We all pray
When day is done
That freedom comes
To everyone!
That thread was yanked about two minutes later by the Admin Moderator for "solicitation."
No other explanation was given. ...but I think an explanation is in order concerning what appears to be a double-standard. It is great that we're supportive of our former President, but it's equally important that we support our current troops.
-Jay
Gotta save up!
Gotta get one of these! :O)
