See 39 for some levity...

Well, sort of. It's actually a take-off on the reality of this situation.

Heh heh heh. You're dead on target bud. Illegals couldn't possibly be taking flights out of there. This is all a big friggen lie! Geez these folks are bold.

Well they couldn't. That's the falicy of the whole report. Imagine if it would shown that illegals actually could fly. It would undermine the whole premise of homeland security. It's a bald faced lie. The whole thing is.

{"Intimidating people, asking people for their documents, scaring people who look like he or she could be an immigrant," said Michele Waslin of the National Council of LaRaza, describing activities by border agents}

A shameless display of the race card. I wish our politicians would grow spines, and tell LaRaza and other Atlzan groups to pound sand.

Border agents will voluntarily move from their southwestern border assignments up to the Canadian border

The decision comes as the Border Patrol backed off plans this week to seal off most of the Arizona-Mexico border (search) with more than 200 miles of wall and 100 stadium lights. Officials say the Border Patrol will introduce a scaled-back version of the plan in October.

Yes, it does indeed get more and more pathetic. What do you say to the bet that the delayed-and-scaled-back plan due in October also gets delayed-and-scaled-back?

Falsified documents is about the only way I can think of. And with a driver's license, they won't need to falsify anything, will they?

Hey, JB, do any of these folks know that you've found used airline tickets and birth certificates in the canyons here, where the illegals catch their rides north?

I'm sure SandRat and DO have probably heard that...

[cyncooper]:The Canadian border beefing up is in addition to, not instead of, stemming the flow of illegals into the country from the south.

So are these 375 additional agents in the North, going to be replaced when they leave the South?

I think the answer may be yes.

[CBP Press Release]:U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Robert C. Bonner has directed that additional Border Patrol agents be deployed as part of the continuing effort to enhance northern border security.

And all of the agents are "in on it"?

I don't think that is the answer to your excellent question.

The answer is in the report. With 375 additional agents headed north, the total on the northern border will more than double to over 1000. Obviously at least another 125 agents will be placed on the norther border in addition to the 375. None will be heading south. Why would they ask for volunteers to leave the southern area if they were only going to be replaced?

That was my thought. After all, these aren't individuals on their own in this particular scenario. They are "cargo" of smugglers who would handle the documents and tickets:

"The smugglers are increasingly hesitant to use this airport to move their human cargo to places other than Phoenix," said Kate Malapanes, a special agent with ICE, the complement to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. Both bureaus emerged from the now defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service.

GWB loves illegals!
His now "clintonseque supporters" think maintaining an illegal, under the table economy will somehow pay for his new, free drugs to the AARP crowd, entitlement.
This will help us all get conservative, formerly known as republican, issues passed.
Whats the difference between a Republican and a Democrat?
A democrat who wants drugs, is willing to pay street price to known criminals for them.
A republican who wants drugs, wants a prescription, and an insurance program, so their grandchildren will pay for them.
Time for another nationwide tea party!

Ha ha ha ha, so our trusted homeland defense 'experts' can't even spot bogus documents? That's just ducky. Anotherwords this whole system leaks like a sive and the US citizens are the only ones being inconvenienced by this.

Did I hear correctly on FoxNews that there were something like 126 individuals arrested today? Were any of them at the airport? I got the impression that they were the safe house operatives, and people apprehended in them.

Well, for your comment to be true they would have to be oblivious to the problem, wouldn't they?

Since they are not oblivious, yet they are not psychic and can't cut off the attempt before it is made, I guess the beef up is to try to eliminate any who fall in the cracks.

I don't think that they "asked" these 375 agents to move North. I think they advertised the positions and the 375 "volunteered" to move North when the positions became open.

I think the definitive answer on this legitimate confusion can be found further down in the CBP press release;

[CBP Press release]:Funding for these additional permanent positions was provided in the fiscal year 2003 budget passed by Congress.

New funding had to be provided for these new permanent positions. If these positions were being transfered, then no new funding would be needed.

The bottom line is -- 375 existing employees will fill 375 new positions and 375 new hires will then fill the 375 vacated, existing positions.

I think it was the safehouses---which I applaud.

I've turned away from news for the evening and have HGTV on, so haven't watched a repeat of the report.

This business of putting ICE on location at Sky Harbor was in the news and on FR two or more weeks ago.

On that thread, someone mentioned being nearly bowled over when BP agents chased an illegal from the ticket counter down the concourse towards the security checkpoint.

Yeah, who's being inconvenienced? You're right, citizens are. Smugglers are. Illegals are. Everyone is, I'd say.

The Border Patrol management doesn't like talking about "got-aways". They claim they're catching at least half. The agents say otherwise: the most optimistic say one in three; the most pessimistic say one in ten. Most say one in five.

Part of the problem is that the prescribed procedures are inefficient and seem designed to tie the agents up with processing instead of apprehensions.

Let's say a team from Naco catches a dozen or so in my neighborhood. They do first line processing on the spot, triage for health problems, and then transport them to the station 30+ miles away. Then they do the real processing -- time consuming. Finally, they saddle them up again and drive them a few more miles to the Port of Entry and send them back into Mexico. Literally hours off patrol.

And what happens during those hours? I nearly found out the hard and unpleasant way.

A couple of months back, American Border Patrol put out a max effort on the San Pedro River. We camped out on an adjacent ranch and were using every technological trick we had at the time. (This was before the UAVs and ground sensors.) We turned in 96 to the Border Patrol in a six hour period. One of the local ranchers got another 85 all by himself in the same area. He was on horseback and herding them like cattle.

About the time we thought the area was cleaned out, I decided to film the trash they had left behind and damn near stepped on half a dozen holdouts hidden in the brush. They were not happy to see me at all, but did notice the holster on my thigh and stayed calm.

Just as fast as the Border Patrol left with a load, another group would come traipsing up the river bed. It was unreal. That night was even crazier. We watched as one vehicle after another dumped people off on the south side of the border -- it was like watching taxis at an airport and it went on for hours.

We were using infrared spotlights and night vision scopes and people were still making it past us and past the Border Patrol -- and the Border Patrol had a nicely equipped helicopter overhead helping out. All we could do was call in sightings and hope a BP team could get there.

I agree with the agents. We got maybe one in five that night.
