In last week's U.S. Supreme Court's affirmative action decision, Justice Clarence Thomas' dissent included a quotation from an 1865 speech by abolitionist Frederick Douglass. "What I ask for the Negro," Douglass said, "is not benevolence, not pity, not sympathy, but simply justice. ... All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! ... Your interference is doing him positive injury."
Forget how the majority used the phrase "compelling state interest" to trump the 14th Amendment's requirement of equal treatment under the law and give continued sanction to racial discrimination. Let's examine some practical matters ignored in the pro-affirmative action celebration of the court's decision.
According to recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reports, the average black high school senior had math skills on par with those of the typical nitnth-grade white student. The average 17-year-old black student could read only as well as the average 12-year-old white. Twelfth-grade black students were doing science problems at the level of sixth-grade white students and writing about as well as whites in the eighth grade.
As of 1998, only 18 percent of black students were rated proficient or advanced in reading, as compared to 47 percent for white students, which itself is nothing to write home about. In Michigan, the source of the controversy leading up to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision, just 2 percent of black eighth-graders score proficient in reading, compared to 34 percent of whites -- again, nothing to write home about. In addition to grossly fraudulent education, there's unthinkable school violence at many of the schools that black students attend.
According to a Department of Education report, "School Crime Patterns" (August 2002), "High schools with the highest levels of violence tended to be located in urban areas and have a high percentage of minority students (black and Hispanic), compared to high schools that reported no crime to the police."
The bottom line is given the day-to-day destruction of education for black students at the primary and secondary levels of schooling, most will never be able to compete academically. The fact that the affirmative action crowd demands discriminatory admission practices for post-graduate education such as in law and medical schools confirms something else. Black performance on admittance exams, such as the LSAT, MCAT and GRE, is stark testament that four years of undergraduate education cannot erase the damage of 12 years of fraudulent primary and secondary education.
In the name of diversity, college administrators and their campus sycophants support racially discriminatory admissions practices. They argue that racial diversity enriches the education experiences of all college students, for which there's absolutely no evidence whatsoever. However, since most college students and administrators are white, it might simply mean that racial diversity gives them a greater sense of superiority having a few campus mascots around, who can't hold their own, beholden to them.
Then there's the false-face of diversity, as Justice Antonin Scalia pointed out in his dissent. Academics support campus "tribalism and racial segregation" with "minority-only student organizations, separate minority housing opportunities, separate minority student centers, even separate minority-only graduation ceremonies."
Black politicians and civil rights organizations' loyalty to the education establishment means academic doom to black youngsters. Washington, D.C,. politics and its schools, among the worse in the nation, are a case in point. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, along with most members of the Congressional Black Caucus, use private schools to educate their children. But, when D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams broke ranks with most black elected-officials and endorsed recently proposed education vouchers, Norton blasted him as being "a sell-out."
Whom do you think Frederick Douglass would deem the sell-out: those who seek an alternative to rotten schools that cost taxpayers $13,000 a year per student or those who support the status quo?

When I was 2 and 3, my two best friends, were a negro and a Chinese girl. I've had friends of all races, all religions, and almost ALL ethnicties all of my life. So can the bigot and racist remarks. You may imagine that you know what you're talking about, but you don't.
I said that I am white, becuase for all of your previous posts to me, you were talking to me as though I am black. I thought that you should know that I'm not. And when you did, then , THEN, the usua; ill educated, bigotted remarks flew. LOL
The whites, whom you asked, are very stupid. That's not a reflection on all whites; as I proved. Yes, I know " black " history; except that I prefer to call it AMERICAN HISTORY ! I know and know the names of prominet blacks; probably more than you do.
Level playing field ? The playing field hasn't been all that " level " for most people. The Irish, the Jews, Puerto Ricans, etc. haven't had a " level playing field " most of the time they've been here either. But, some people, like cream, have always managed to float to the top and make it...even WITH massive obsticals in their way.
And guess what ? It wasn't ONLY blacks, who used to look out for/ over the kids in neighborhoods. People of EVERY race used to do that. And poor whites, living in ghettos/the wrong side of the tracks, didn't have anyone to look up to. Just because some white man was the president of some company, or was president of the USA, didn't stop white criminals and juvenile delinquents from being what they were.
Here's a quiz...and without looking the names up/doing a goggle, tell me who the following people were/are : Jewel Stadford Lafontant,Wyat Tee Walker,Dr. William DeBerry,Hiram Revels,Judge George Lewis Ruffin, and Charles H. Smiley.
I went to boarding school with blacks, as did my daughter, I have black friends, and it's a matter of " class ", not race which differenciates us from others, NOT race. You can't see that. What's the matter with YOU ? And, by-the-by, including nasty refferences to alcohol, is besides the point...I don't drink alchohol often and neither do I do dope.
I know who Ida B. Wells was, what Jack and Jill and The Links is, and where SUGAR HILL is and who has and does live there. DO YOU ? I know a lot of blacks, whose names aren't " famous ", who have " made it " and hold positions far superior to the majority of whites. I also know what " DOIN' THE DOZENS " is ; though ghetto speak isn't something I think blacks should engage in, any more than I think that whites should talk in any other fashion than American English.
Afrimative Action is disrespectful to blacks. Just as keeping Spanish speakers in their own language is. Time was, when everyone was in a classroom because that's where they were. Blacks didn't consider doing well in school to be something NOT to do; rather, they were told, as were all children, that they needed to excell.
The Klan is history and didn't effect ALL blacks, though of course it had a deliterious effect on those who were exposed to it. Same is true for the Jews and Roman Catholics, whom the KKK went after as well.
Am I sure that I know REAL black people ? Yes, I do, but do the ones I know, NOT count, because they aren't ghetto blacks ? Will Roy Campanella and his stepson and children do ? How about Lena Horn ? How about the other 100 or so, I know, whom you've never heard of and the our fellow FREEPERs, who are black and my friends ?

No, I don't understand. You have asserted that the USA is "a blatantly white racist society" where the "white boy gets the first and best of everything" ... Speaking as a white boy that has had to bust his ass for 25 years, never being more than 2 paychecks away from losing my car and my house, I can say that I take statements like that as the complete and utter BULLSHIT that they are.
Your disdain for whites is obvious, and your defeatist victim-oriented mindset is apparent from your original post. I contextualized that by saying that whites are as much of a minority in the world as blacks are in the US, and yet, as you have asserted, whites apparently control most of the wealth and power in the world.
As soon as you get off Jesse's plantation and start thinking for yourself, working towards your goals without self-defeating psychologies, then you and I will be on the same page. No one has handed me a damn thing, and yes, it may have been easier for me to manage to hang on to a job, car, and home here in the US that it would be for me to do the same thing in Zimbabwe (or China, or wherever) but that is life. Period. It is not some institutionalized racist plan to keep the black man down ... it is just because no one gives anyone anything, minority or not ... people earn what they get, and that is the same for all of us.

You know I have heard this so much that for a split second now I might buy into it. I dont buy into the $~chance because I went to a poor school which was mostly minority, I than went to a good High-School (one you had to take an exam to get into) with a mix of 55White, 40Black and 5other. I actually had a Black kid in this school tell me I have had it easier than him (to explain the fact I had a Higher SAT score) despite the fact we went to the same grade school and highschool. This same kid turned around and made fun of someone who was 'acting too white'. The kid who was acting white is now a computer graphics artist and making good $ in a secure job.
You want to fix Black America ditch the sob story and fix the culture of hating 'uncle toms', or Oreos (Black on the outside white on the inside). More federal money is spent in DC per kid than anywhere else in the nation and the schools are pretty much as bad as they can get.
There is no reason that a young African American cant succeede if his parent push him and dont rely on the public education system that has doomed the current Balck generation.
Finally as for black being held back because of race and hatred explain Asian success? The difference is culture, I am getting married to an Asian whos fathers only request of me was that I see to it she gets a degree (despite the fact I make enough to care for her and we plan to homeschool). There is a respect for education in their society which has led them to get their kids in the top earners spot in America..
