Constitution Subverted To Concept of "Diversity"

June 30, 2003

Peter Wood is an associate professor of anthropology at Boston University. He is the author of "Diversity: The Invention of a Concept," and he had a piece in the Washington Post on Sunday, which echoes what I told you right here about the Supreme Court's decision in the Michigan affirmative action case.

This is an excellent piece, which you can hear me read in the audio link below. Here's a quote, "Diversity is a recipe for remaking American society in an unending competition of victim groups for even bigger shares of the spoils. Contrary to O'Connor's view, the policies adopted to promote diversity will not be obsolete 25 years from now. They will instead be deeply embedded in our institutions. The diversity doctrine is about appetite, and it's bound to grow. The court has badly misjudged. Though I hope its decision will be overturned quickly, I know that's unlikely. Get ready for a deep-seated transformation of the United States into a nation that has subordinated the ideal of equality to the ideology of group rights."

Pardon me for reminding you, folks, but that's precisely what I said last week when I told you that the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment's equal-protection clause has been subordinated to something called "diversity."

President Applauds Supreme Court for Recognizing Value of Diversity Statement by the President

I applaud the Supreme Court for recognizing the value of diversity on our Nation's campuses. Diversity is one of America's greatest strengths. Today's decisions seek a careful balance between the goal of campus diversity and the fundamental principle of equal treatment under the law.

President George W. Bush

First they tried "melting pot," then "integration," now it is "diversity," and next it will be "preservation-of-ethnic-heritage-minority-groups." Jesse "The Rainbow Baby" must be pleased: Keep 'em off-balance, feeling guilty, and ripe for blackmail!

Whatever happened to "The Individual?" Time was that it was a very important idea! Seems to me it was somewhere around 1776 --- .

The hell with diversity. What ever happened to unity? Will this madness ever end? I just hope I live long enough to see this country stop counting and categorizing its citizens, but I doubt it.

Remember how how Algore translated "E Pluribus Unum": From one, many. Exactly what a liberal would say, and that's what we have today.

You better ask the President as he seems to be in full support of Subverting the Constitution to one of diversity.

First they tried "melting pot,"

Nobody "tried" the melting pot. The term refers to what naturally happens to immigrants when they come to America. They (their children) become Americanized, and parts of their old culture also become Americanized. It was not a program, or law.

It's what used to happen before diversity and socialism. Now they get more handouts and favored treatment by not becoming Americanized. They get great advantages by being a favored group instead of individuals.

It still happens, it's a natural process that cannot be stopped. The only difference today is that the liberal establishment has fighting it and trying to delay it. I don't think that welfare is a factor here. (Welfare is used more to gain power over someone.) They are using bi-lingual ed, to keep children apart. They are failing/fight efforts to promote good citizenship. (We used to teach immigrants what it meant to be an American.)

They will delay Americanization but fail to stop it. but not before the immigrants have suffered.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said the Supreme Court's affirmative action decisions show that the nation's colleges and universities are obliged to pursue "race-neutral approaches" as they try to achieve the goal of diversity among students.

"I applaud the Supreme Court for recognizing the value of diversity on our nation's campuses," Bush said in a written statement Monday. "Diversity is one of America's greatest strengths. Today's decisions seek a careful balance between the goal of campus diversity and the fundamental principle of equal treatment under the law.

"My administration will continue to promote policies that expand educational opportunities for Americans from all racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds," he said. "There are innovative and proven ways for colleges and universities to reflect our diversity without using racial quotas. The court has made clear that colleges and universities must engage in a serious, good faith consideration of workable race-neutral alternatives. I agree that we must look first to these race-neutral approaches to make campuses more welcoming for all students.

"Race is a reality in American life," the president added. "Yet like the court, I look forward to the day when America will truly be a colorblind society. My administration will continue to work toward this important goal."

Diversity is one of America's greatest strengths.

Reagan made a similar statement in his keynote address at the 1992 GOP convention - I wonder if Rush now thinks GWB and the Gipper are PC liberals too.

Reagan made a similar statement in his keynote address at the 1992 GOP convention - I wonder if Rush now thinks GWB and the Gipper are PC liberals too.

Reminds me of Mark Anthony's speach, where he "comes not to praise, but to bury Ceasar" then proceeds to praise him to the audience.

Both Bush and Reagan knew that it was politic to commend "diversity" vocally while at the same time working to return to a nation of laws and opportunity. (Or at least I can hope so.)

Diversity is one of the most diabolical movements that the left has devised. It attacks not only our institutions and corporations, it also attacks us in our innermost thoughts. If you don't think so, try telling a group an "ethnic" based joke. Even comedians have ducked out here. One would have thought that 9-11 would be a wake up call that all "diversity" is not equal, and that we would be insane to welcome every minority to our land, and that to search a minority party suitcase would not be seen as "profiling", but this is the direction we are going.

But regardless of what one thinks about diversity, unless in your protected peer group, all politicians will be "for" diversity for some time now.

Apparently "diversity" in sexual behavior is on the menu also.

"...by not becoming Americanized. They get great advantages by being a favored group instead of individuals. "

They get the perception of great advantages while actually getting seduced into a downward spiral of under-achievement that prevents them (by their own actions) from participating in the American dream.

Today, we read that George W. Bush and his advisers are terrified of having gay marriage become an issue in 2004, as they will have to oppose such marriages as immoral, in order to secure their political base, while the Big Media lashes them as bigots.

The Bushites are delighted to have questions of race, religion and morality settled by courts. For when courts decide, politicians can throw up their hands and say, "We may not like it, but there is nothing we can do. The court has the final say."

That's a nice way of never having to admit you're out of touch with your political leaders - assume that when they disagree with you it's for some secret purpose. Even when they make policy based on those beliefs you got to believe it's all part of the plan.
