California only hours away from total ruin

LOS ANGELES -- Any day now, community colleges here may begin telling faculty members that they cannot be paid and students that summer classes are canceled.

Nursing homes are losing so much state aid that many soon may have to shut down or limit their services, a prospect that has elderly residents confused and frightened.

As many as 30,000 government workers who had been expecting pay raises in the fall are instead receiving formal notices warning that they could lose their jobs by then, because the state is broke.

This is life in California, on the brink of a fiscal disaster.

The nation's most populous state, home to one of the world's largest economies, has been staring in disbelief at the same dire predicament for months: a $38 billion deficit, the largest shortfall in its history and an extreme example of the budget woes afflicting many states. But now it has only hours left to solve the problem.

The unions are sell outs to Davis. Now that they get their $1 million a month in Fair Share Union Fees, they are fat and happy. THey also know that all the lay off talk is posturing and won't come to fruition. It takes a year to actually kick someone out the door. So as long as you wear your red or purple union shirt and play nice, the lazy asses are secure. By the time lay offs ACTUALLY are to occurr, the crisis will be "solved"...or rather pushed over to the next generation of taxpayers.

BTW, today is my day off, so I am not farting around on your tax dime!

Don't you dare put San Diego and Orange county with LA, Ventura and Santa Barbara...

Orange County is one of the most conservate counties in the state... San Diego is close behind.

Let the lefties have their own playground... the areas around LA and SF. Leave the rest of us alone

First of all there is no question in my mind that Davis will be the first governor in the history of California to be recalled. Personally I was opposed to recalling Davis (i preferred to let him suffer), but I still found myself signing the petition.

Believe me folks when I say they have enough signatures. That peitition is EVERYWHERE. I have been asked to sign it at least THREE different times.

The only question is whether Arnie has a plan to get us out of this mess or not.

If he runs HE WILL be the next governor of California. Period.

Some Republicans do love to rail on about illegal immigration.

Well I'd say 80% of the population who are upset about this illegal alien invasion is not some, but even so I can't think of anything more important than this issue. It's a direct attack on our independence and sovereignty.

And being from NY I am aware of the illegal Chinese and Muslims. There's hundreds of thousands of them in the NYC area alone. It's not just Mexico, that's correct.

Don't know who to reply to. Anyway, I live in San Jose, and we went down to San Clemente this past week. We stayed with some friends down there. My friend told me that when they were looking for a house, they couldn't consider a new home.

New homes are being taxed to help pay for street maintenance and other things. The tax alone would be $1000/month. Now, the new homes are expensive around $700,000 for a 4 bedroom 2500 sq ft home. However, a $1000/month tax really puts that out of the question.

My friend bought an older home and is fixing it up.

"They just might be the same thing."

Any you just might be right. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

America's business system used to be based on trust to some degree. Recently, it's been a race (especially during and since the Clinton administration) to the bottom between political ethics and business ethics! Now, it seems the whole idea of ethics and honor has become... "There is no honor among thieves!"

This has given rise to cynical paranoia about both politics and business. As a life-long advocate for business and business based candidates and seeing this trend continue, is why I had hopes that good candidates, although terribly vulnerable to the vicious smearing of ruthless and unethical politicians, like Bill Simon would succeed.

Tom McClintock may not be the business candidate, but he at least has the political moxy to deal with the smearing, sliming Demonicrats and is fiscally responsible/ethical to the same high degree as Simon. Plus, he also has the courage of his convictions.

CA Demonicrats need more convictions... Convictions for the fiscal crimes they have committed!!!

CA Demonicrats need to be more committed... Committed to institutions for the criminally insane!!!

I hope your not putting San Bernadino or Riveride Counties in there either. San Bernadino County (the largest county in the US) has more registered Republicans then Democrats and voted Republican in every election I can remember. The Inland Empire is also the fastest growing region in the state.

Which basically leaves LA Country and SF. I hate listening to national Republicans bash California when there are millions and millions of dedicated Republicans here in California. There is no way any of us our leaving one of the most beautiful and affluent parts of the world. You can't fault us for that.

"...this state worker saved taxpayers over a million bucks last year...and it is on an ongoing basis."

And I thank you for a job well done, working in that Crapitol sesspool. I wish there were many more like you than there are.

It must be nice footing the bill for all those illegal immigrants. Show up at the border with a Matricula Consular, and let the good times roll. Nice going, California. See what apathy and radical leftist tendencies get you? You reap what you sow.

Well I'd say 80% of the population who are upset about this illegal alien invasion is not some, but even so I can't think of anything more important than this issue. It's a direct attack on our independence and sovereignty.

Why do you think that's its never that big of an issue with the national Republican party? I'll tell you why. Two reasons:

1. There biggest contributors benefit enormously from it. Low cost labor = competitive American companies. If you want to get rid of illegal immigration YOU PUNISH THE COMPANIES THAT HIRE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Don't punish the immigrants. They are coming here because there are jobs here, and its NOT A sh-thole like Mexico. If you had ever been to Mexico you could easily see why you would stuff yourself in the trunk of a car in the hopes for a better life in America. As long as there is EMPLOYMENT here they will come.

2. If you attack the immigrants you alienate Mexican Americans and push them towards the Democrats. Mexicans unlike blacks (and i'm black) like to keep their political options open, are generally conservative on social issues, and are quite willing to vote for the right Republican (Bush BTW is that Republican). Prop 187 (and I voted for it) was an unmitigated disaster for the Republican party in California. Wilson never should have campaigned for it. It would have been passed anyhow. It HANDED the state to the Democrats on a silver platter.

You made a valid point. The Federal Government needs to be less involved. But that doesn't excuse California's grotesque spending habits and "socialized" lifestyle enjoyed by non-tax paying illegal immigrants, bums, welfare cases, etc.

That we are in total agreement with.

Prop 187 (and I voted for it) was an unmitigated disaster for the Republican party in California.

Not being from California, I'll leave that discussion to someone who is. But I do know that Prop 187 passed something like 60-40, and it is believed would pass by the same margin again today. If a Republican came along and campaigned on that issue, it's my opinion he'd most likely win as Wilson did.

Historically the party has never received more than 25 to 35% of the hispanic vote nationwide, and unless Republicans become democrat clones and promise to give away the store, they never will.

I hear he is available seeing's how he has no immmediate career plans. (Of course, the future of Grayout's career isn't looking too good either).

I presume July 1 is an important date but don't know why or to what extent.

It's the beginning of the new fiscal year. Without a budget, they can't spend anything starting on that date (there are a few exceptions, but the money pipeline is mostly turned off).
