BLAME THE GOP FOR PRO-SODOMY COURT DECISION

BLAME THE GOP FOR PRO-SODOMY COURT DECISION By: Reed R. Heustis, Jr. June 27, AD 2003

With one stroke of the pen, [homosexuality] has triumphed at the Supreme Court.

And guess what?

Republican-appointed Justices are to blame.

With a convincing 6-3 decision in Lawrence v. Texas, the United States Supreme Court on June 26 overturned a 1986 case, Bowers v. Hardwick, which had upheld the legitimacy of an anti-sodomy law. Sodomites and perverts all across America are hailing the Lawrence decision as the biggest gay rights victory in our nation's history.

Mitchell Katine, the openly gay attorney representing John Lawrence and Tyron Garner, the men whose arrest in 1998 led to the decision, proclaimed, "this is a day of independence."

Whereas homosexual deviancy has long been celebrated in the media and on our university campuses over the last two decades, the Johnny-come-lately Supreme Court now joins the orgy. As dissenting Justice Antonin Scalia correctly stated, "The court has taken sides in the culture war...."

How could this have happened?

Weren't Republicans supposed to be the champions of traditional values?

Weren't Republicans supposed to be the stalwart defenders of our nation's Christian heritage?

Seriously, just think:

Every four years without fail, the Republican Party instructs Christians to elect Republicans to office so that we can thwart the left wing agenda of the Democratic Party.

Every four years without fail, the Republican Establishment warns its rank and file never to vote for a third party candidate, lest we elect a Democrat by default by "giving him the election".

Every four years without fail, Christians are told that third party candidates cannot win, and that a vote for a third party candidate is somehow a vote for the Democrat.

Every four years without fail, Christians are bamboozled into believing that their beloved Republican Party will restore this nation to its Christian heritage.

Every four years without fail, we are told that only a Republican can appoint a conservative Justice to the high bench so that liberalism can be stopped cold.

Without fail.

Christians, wake up!

It is the Republican Party that is responsible for moronic decisions such as Lawrence. Quit blaming the liberals and the Democrats. Blame the GOP!

Out of the six Justices that formed the horrifying 6-3 Lawrence majority, four were appointed by Republicans! Four!

Justice John Paul Stevens was nominated by President Gerald Ford - a Republican.

Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy were nominated by President Ronald Reagan - a Republican.

Justice David Souter was nominated by President George H.W. Bush - a Republican.

Two-thirds of the majority opinion were Republican-appointed!

"I believe this needs to be trumpeted," says Tim Farness, 1st District Representative of the Constitution Party of Wisconsin.

Indeed it does.

A 4-2 majority of the six Justices forming the Lawrence decision was Republican-appointed.

Republican President George W. Bush intends to run for a second term in 2004. Don't be too surprised when we start hearing the same-old song and dance all over again: "Elect Republicans so that we can defeat the Democratic agenda."

Mr. President: the Republican Party is the Democratic agenda.

Let's legalize the posession and sales of of ricin, C4, anthrax, and plutonium. "Just because I want them leagalzed doesn't mean I'm going to run out and do any harm with them."

I don't suppose you see something odd in a government having the authority to ban you from owning atoms? Or bacteria?
Ah well. Just must be me.

I think folks such as Nero, Trajan, and Caligula said the same thing

Big difference between Christians and Fundie Freaks.

We have societies/cultures in order to behave by certain standards. (Trust you're with me so far, this is pretty basic. ;-)

We're changing the standards now. Your time is over.

A nice long rant to tell me that you think you have the right to impose your religious values on the rest of us by force of arms.

You don't. And history has already decided that.

You'll notice you lost the last battle (gay sex). Want to bet odds on whatever the next one is? 3 out 5? :)

You do realize don't you that we have three branches of government, each serving as a check and balance on each other? Just checking.

I am aware of that. The legislative makes law. The executive promotes law. The judiciary resolves disputes at law.

When the judiciary legislates from the bench, it is usurping the power of Congress.

When the executive writes EOs that go beyond administrative matters pertaining to executive areas (agencies), it is usurping the power of Congress.

We have had a great deal of both of the latter in recent times.

Don't write to me again until you improve your manners.

The majority of people in this country do not wish to live under a theocracy.

I'm afraid you're right. But if you trace the slide of european history from the Holy Roman empire down through Nazi Germany, you might see that disestablishment is not necessarily a good thing.

When it comes to understanding history, follow the philosophy.

why are there so many homo-promoters and sodomy-promoters here lately? There's nothing conservative about one quarter (rough estimate) of the posters here

Hahaha.. You've not even been here a year. BARELY six months.

The dregs have been let in.

I do NOT at this time advocate leaving the GOP for a third party.

But I fear the day is fast approaching when social conservatives and/or Christian conservatives will have no choice.

The "day" has occured.

Got me, DA. You're right. We'll all just give up. No matter that Christians believe in the fundamentals of our faith -- of course the ones who do are wrong! We must all be careful not to believe what is central to what we believe. Of course! But of course this can't include a fundamental right to anything... like property, either.... Too bad. I really wanted to trade weapons grade plutonium, and cocaine on the open market. The Merc may yet get to place puts and takes on such things though, if you and President Browne get your way.

The next battle: Why not that -- weapons grade plutonium owner's rights? You champion the cause. We'll see how far you get.

Sure, we've all lost. Can't even elect an Evangelical Christian president, anymore. We're all so discouraged, since you and the Clintonian amoralists have won. History never moves, once some people make a decision, afterall.

The alternative of reality:
Values will never ceased to be imposed. That is life. They will either be imposed sensibly or nonsensically, but they will never cease to be imposed. And as the drafters of the 2nd Amendment and Mao both realized, "Political power comes from the barrel of a gun."

Should it be perfectly legal to stuff pencils as far as possible into consenting "adults" eyes and ears? Don't laugh -- how about sexual asphyxiation?

Yes, yes and yes.

Another example is that we don't need to make marijuana smoking uttery legal; we can keep it only quasi-criminal

Ah yes! Subvert the rule of law. Make it grey. That way MAN has power over citizens... Sigh.

Yes, just like traffic laws are such a nusiance to a "true libertarian." They're just gray.

Believe anything you like. In your home. With your family and your friends.
Leave the rest of us alone and stop trying to enforce your belief system on us by force of arms.

But of course this can't include a fundamental right to anything... like property, either....
Illogical. Property rights have to vanish because you can't stop gay people from having sex?

I really wanted to trade weapons grade plutonium, and cocaine on the open market.

Agree with the coke trading. My point about atoms stands. How (And they did it when gold was illegal too!) can it be that the government can prohibit you from owning an atom - a fundamental (that word again) building block of the universe. Outlawed. Not rational.

Can't even elect an Evangelical Christian president, anymore
True. That will never happen again.

History never moves, once some people make a decision, afterall.

You're missing some important perspective.
You don't have the power to use Church troops to conduct Inquisitions. You don't have the power to burn heathens at the stake. You can't stop us from being educated, so we can't read and learn the truth for ourselves. You can't tie us to one plot of land for our whole lives and prevent us from contact others, and prevent the spread of ideas.

These are the ways that "Christian" societies have moved history. And now they are not available to you. All the peasants have arms too!

How exactly do you think you're going to change modern culture?? You've got Fundie TV channels. No one but Fundies watch them. Meanwhile the 99% of the rest of us are engaged in Modern 21st century culture.

You have lost the cultural war. It's really not up for debate. The only problem is that you cling to a delusion that you can gain some sort of power over us and force us to obey.

You can't. And you're creating more misery by trying than would exist otherwise.

Values will never ceased to be imposed. That is life. They will either be imposed sensibly or nonsensically, but they will never cease to be imposed

See what I mean? Delusional. You actually thing you can impose your will on 250,000,000 of us who will tell you to stuff it.

You're outnumbered by far AND outgunned. Just how do you think you could force anything??? I used to think leftists were more dangerous than Fundies. Now I'm not so sure...

A nice long rant to tell me that you think you have the right to impose your religious values on the rest of us by force of arms.

Hahahahahahaha!!!! Outstandingly uproarious!!! (Is there a "boogie-man" hiding under your bed, too?)

Here are the "religious values" that this "fanatical Christian/Evangelical/Bible-thumping/extremist zealot" would like to impose on you DAnconia55:

(1) "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's." (I.e., the moral code is not something that any just, legitimate government can impose. Morality is simply not something that can be imposed at all, without violating the dignity and sanctity of the human person.)

(2) "Love thy neighbor as thyself." (I.e., live and let live).

In a civil society, the second is either predicated on the first, or it doesn't happen.

Would you like me to explain these points in greater detail? (Forgive me for saying it, but perhaps your religious bigotry disposes you against such a sensible notion.)

Agreed, bb.

Also, is the principle that Lincoln derived from Scritpure, that a man does not have the right to do what is wrong.
