WHAT HAPPENED....?

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?Five signers were captured by the British and brutally tortured as traitors.

At least twelve of the fifty-six had their homes pillaged and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army. Another two had sons captured.

Nine fought in the War for Independence and died from wounds or from hardships they suffered.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers or large plantation owners. One was a teacher, one a musician, and one a printer. They were men of means and education who launched the Ship of State which you and I have inherited.
Yet, they signed the Declaration of Independence, knowing full well that the penalty could be death if they were captured.

When these courageous men signed, they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to the cause of freedom and independence.

In the face of the advancing British Army, the Continental Congress fled from Philadelphia to Baltimore on December 12, 1776.

It was an especially anxious time for John Hancock, the President, as his wife had just given birth to a baby girl. Due to the complications stemming from the trip to Baltimore, the child lived only a few months.

William Ellery's signing at the risk of his fortune, proved only too realistic. In December 1776, during three days of British occupation of Newport, Rhode Island, Ellery's house was burned and all his property was destroyed.

Richard Stockton, a New Jersey State Supreme Court Justice, had rushed back to his estate near Princeton after signing the Declaration only to find that his wife and children were living like refugees with friends. They had been betrayed by a Tory sympathizer who also revealed Stockton's own whereabouts. British troops pulled him from his bed one night, beat him and threw him in jail where he almost starved to death. When he was finally released, he went home to find his estate had been looted, his possessions burned, and his horses stolen. Judge Stockton had been so badly treated in prison that his health was ruined and he died before the war's end. His surviving family had to live the remainder of their lives off charity.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, was a wealthy planter and trader. One by one, his ships were captured by the British navy. He loaned a large sum of money to the American cause; it was never paid back. He was forced to sell his plantations and mortgage his other properties to pay his debts. He died in rags.

Thomas McKean was so hounded by the British, that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Continental Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

MoJo's Thought:
For all those people that believe America is a selfish, arrogant, and brutal country. I give you the above to look at and ponder. I have read this many times and I've cried every time. It was no small sacrifice on these brave men's part. They were not perfect individuals. They have the same character flaws that many of us can recognize in our own selves. However, you will be celebrating America's Independence next week because of these brave men. Thank God that we have men of courage. We are truly a blessed Nation.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

Good morning, Aeronaut and Otto, and thank you both for your dedication to the flyover of protection for our troops' Canteen, a place where we offer a "touch of home" for our troops, our veterans, their families, and our allies.

We got about an hours downpour early evening. Watered the lawn. Have a great weekend with Mrs Aeronaut and Otto and Luke. Has Otto been on any good trips lately?

Hi Kathy, glad you got some rain. We haven't been anywhere good lately. We're going to Oshkosh next month, Orlando in November and Scottsdale in September.

Will you fly or be flown?

Yes. Driving a cargo van to Oshkosh, flying a state airplane to Orlando (long flight), and riding the winged silver bus to Scottsdale.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are,God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord we pray;
Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie over all;
 Bless this door, that it may prove
ever open to joy and love.

Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there,
with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within,
keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we
May dwell O Lord with thee.

To: Kathy in Alaska; All
thank you Kathy, for the wonderful and warm welcome.

I just discovered FreeP about a month ago - simply love this place! There are great postings, it's an excellent way to stay up on what's going on... but the best part of FreeP is that I get to read about and meet other fellow Americans who have such a love for our country.

Seeing this love displayed so clearly is a most sublime experience for me; it gives me unbound hope for our Nation - and within it, I refresh my spirit daily like drinking from a well of purest spring water, and am reminded of my faith in G-D. It makes me wish I were a young man setting out on my own again... just so I could bear arms for my Flag and fellow citizens for another 25 years.

G-D Bless America,

Juan
