"NO priors"?
Oh, that makes it less punishable?
Tell it to the person in prison, who got drunk one night and killed someone in a traffic accident.."no priors".
Tell it to the person in prison who got high and took a gun and blew someone away.."no priors".
Tell it to the person in prison who raped or molested a child or woman while Under the Influence of God only knows what..."no priors"..
Once is enough.
High, low, whatever..she is totally responsible for her behavior and lack of compassion..She acted like a cold-blooded monster..sw

the act of driving home and closing the garage door ...is premeditation. Kind of sounds more like postmeditation, if there is such a thing.

Ok, she appeared before the law and her case was presented to a jury of her peers. This was all done a methodical and reasoned manner for both the prosecution and the defense. In the end, her peers found her wanting before the law; finding her guilty. All based on the reasoned presentation of the facts.
I have a question; how does anyone think this would have played out with the media and the public if the perp's and victim's ethnic groups were reversed? Hmmmmm?

I think we all agree that it was an accident and not her fault that she hit the guy.
================================
I think we can aggree that it was not intentional. Fault will probably never be determined. Despite her testimony, we do not know whether he was in the middle of the road (where she should have seen him) or over on the side (where she had to go out of her way to hit him).

Or even if she hit him where she said she did since it was close to 4 months after the 'accident' before they found out where the accident scene was.

Ok folks, to clear up the confusion and guessing here's the deal. If she got 50 and 10 years running concurrently that's 50. Straight from a prison official's mouth (Mr. M), she must serve 1/3 of her time before she is eligible for parole. Even if she were the model inmate the entire 16 yrs + 8 mos they never let anyone out the first time up for the parole board. Don't forget she may also be awarded time already served.

Sort of off-topic, but not much...
What have you heard about Darlie Routier lately?
The grim reaper should be drawing nigh. Didn't that happen this month in 1996? If I recall, she was convicted in January of '97.

What happens to the boy friend who helped her dispose of the body? I haven't heard about his crime or punishment. Let's hope he gets a long sentence too.
==========================
Two friends ivolved in the cover up. Confessed to evidence tampering. Ten years each. Five to serve with parole, I suppose.
To: RedBloodedAmerican
Well I guess the problem in charging her is that you just don't know what to charge her with.
Is that a Yogism?
Yes hitting him was a accident. But what she did aftwards was sickening and not a accident. She didn't try to help him. She took the body to a place it couldn't be found. And then waited for him to die of a injury she caused. I just don't know what you call all that.

It's about time stupidity wasn't rewarded. She would make a great poster child on billboards nationwide extolling the virtues of stupidity behind the wheel.

I'll be 78 and probably a great-granddad a few times over by then.The only good news in this thread is that you are a tiny bit older than me and now I can make fun of you!
Priors should not matter in murder cases. Some folks only need one person dead.

She was insane with fear. The fact that she's got the mentality of a brain dead monkey combined with the drugs made it worse.
She got a just punishment.

Hitting the person with her car: was that intentional? If not, it was vehicular manslaughter.The point is that hitting him with her car would NOT have been any kind of manslaughter if she had gotten help for him. The accident didn't kill him. Her failure to call for help, take him to a place where he could get medical attention, or render aid herself is why he died.
She would have gotten a DWI (or whatever the equivalent is in TX) if she hadn't reacted the way she did .... and perhaps another charge or two ..... but nothing like the mess she ended up in. What she did was murder the man through her negligance, IMO.

What she did was murder the man through her negligance, IMOI agree. It just seemed like that was after the accident. I am not saying he didn't die at her hands. I just think it should have been tried differently.
To: zarf
Umm...actually I think drugs provide the dead brain of a monkey. Seems that is what happens. She may have some mental impairment aside from drugs (in the natural), but for anyone to think drugs does anything less than to alter one from a normal state is foolishness. Maybe people don't like themselves in the norm and con't cope, I don't know.

>>Horrible act but too much time. I was against anything over 20 years. She is certain to appeal and get it reduced. I hope she does.<<
I'm all over the fence on this one. Sentancing is really messed up. Hit a guy on a Motorcycle, get sued for 34million, get out in 6 months, kill someone in cold blood get 25 years, eligable in 18, etc. The laws are very inconsistant.
