...rather than have Oppenheimer supply classified documents to agents, his Soviet spy masters might have preferred that he "appoint other Communists to key positions who would in turn hand over the information." Crouch then identified a number of scientists with Party affiliations appointed by Oppenheimer to key positions in the Manhattan Project. Nearly fifty years later, the Schecters would uncover a letter in the Soviet spy archives written by Lavrenti Beria, Stalins chief spy and then head of his nuclear program. Beria refers to Oppenheimer as an "unlisted agent" of the CPUSA and praises Oppenheimers role in providing Soviet spies access to U.S. atomic secrets...

Grading murderous tyrannies as to better or worse is no easy business. But the Nazis were truly horrible. This is why the Reds were able to rack up a much bigger kill-count. In any given population, there are a limited number of people who can be convinced to go along with open horror. But if you convince people that they are doing something to create a better world, there is no limit to the horror you can unleash

I'm not here to win converts. I'm here to test my ideas. To judge for myself whether they're worth anything...and in the process to learn from my own research and that of others.
Thus I'm always satisfied with intelligent encounters - win, lose, draw. It's close-minded idiocy that's frustrating.
You ought to read my posts more closely. I didn't say I had a "vision of a socialist world which works". I said it might be possible to construct one.
I googled "Russell, overpopulation" as you suggested and came up with a very interesting article which I posted. Did you read it?
To: Tai_Chung
Yes, if nothing else it put the communists within the US, whose primary objective was to destroy the US, on perpetual guard.
McCarthy was right.
He may have gone whole hog, I don't know, but in the final analysis he began the process of identifying and ostracizing (sp?) the implacable foes of the United States of America.
Elia (sp?) Kazan knew as much and so do I. Moreover, as an immigrant whose parents suffered under fascism, I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

Russell was never the same after he and Whitehead did the Principa, he was a jibbering idiot, or so I remember him, in the '60's I'm sorry to hear that. Russell was born in 1872. In the '60s he would have been a very old man. Still, it may have been the effort expended on the Principia which did him in. I read somewhere that Einstein nearly died while creating the General Theory and he was considerably younger and stronger than Russell when he made the effort.

Einstein nearly died while creating the General Theory and he was considerably younger and stronger than Russell when he made the effort. An he didn't like the results and came up with Special Relitivity, Earl Russell didn't like his family history and embraced Communism, a popular fad at the time.

While all the intrigue was going on and the Commies could find the US war with Japan useful, there were very real atrocities that were occuring in China and people of good will and particularly Christian missionariees could find dealing with the Japanese most disturbing.I realize we made serious mistakes in China and our own commies helped seal the fate of the area..Now Japan is our ally and the world is turned upside down!

I think I dealt with most of the points you raise in subsequent posts.
I don't believe it was possible to do as Patton wished - physically or politically. But I think we tried that strategy at the urging of Churchill. We wanted to establish a second front in '42 but Churchill asked us to postpone it.

It's important to remember that Western hostility to Russian communism was the norm all through the '20s. Had Hitler not been so awful it certainly would have continued and intensified.
To: MEG33
As factual information continues to spread of how these many traitorous communists invaded and undermined our government, as deceitful facades are striped naked, I believe there will be an increasingly shrill backlash as an attempt to deny these revelations.

Sorry. Didn't notice that was the Oxford article. Here's another one of interest
What the Malthusians Say
The author is hostile and doesn't consider for a moment the possibility that the Malthusians might be correct. But the quotes are probably accurate.

I believe you have just given a wonderful summation of the "Religion" of socialism and the rationalization of the journalists, writers, spies in our government, scientists, intellectuals, etc, who with great sense of superiority went along in spite of the horror. It's all for a better world.

As for McCarthy's drinking being separate from his performance as a public servant, many people would take up drinking if they were consistently slandered by virtually all press outlets (many times by other Soviet agents, like I. F. Stone) 24 hours a day, by reporters who did not care for facts (just like today, go figure...). An observation I was going to make!!! The press has an easy way of destroying people with lies (nytimes) and back then, there was no internet or Fox News outlets. People were consistently CONNED by the press into believing what the press wanted....Buckeye Bomber is basing everything on leftist lies.

What is so immoral about communism is that it rewards vice and it punishes the good. It becomes a society totally devoid of Judeo-Christian Ethics, in fact, it has to destroy those religious ideals to succeed.....

Right.
For me it's a toss-up. Clearly human population in the Third World is increasing at a tremendous rate. Will it travel the same path as the first world - increasing exponentially in response to modern medicine, public health, and greater availability of food and then leveling off in response to greater wealth? Or will cultural factors determine a different, less-favorable course? Will Malthus finally be proven right or will human ingenuity continue to find ways to increase the standard of living despite ever-shrinking living space?
