COUNTDOWN (493 DAYS) TO VICTORY '04 -- A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY

Countdown to Victory '04 is Free Republic's daily action center for the grassroots campaign to re-elect Bush-Cheney in 2004 -- the place to visit to find out the latest from the campaign and how you can help TODAY!

Monday, June 30th is the last day of the campaign funds reporting period, and now is a critical time to show the great outpouring of support for President Bush and Vice President Cheney at the grassroots! You may have read all the stories about President Bush raising $20 million and think your contribution might not matter. But it does -- what's more important than the big number ending in lots of zeroes is the number of grassroots supporters on Free Republic we are able to energize for President Bush. Please contribute today at http://www.georgewbush.com/chartermember/ to meet the critical June 30th deadline!

On May 29th, we asked Freepers to send in Bush contributions ending in $4 for Victory in '04 so that everyone would know about the grassroots power of Free Republic. On Monday, June 30th, everyone WILL know, as reporters and others pore over these reports and hopefully see LOTS of Freeper contributions ending $4. Now is our big opportunity to make a difference. Donate now at http://www.georgewbush.com/chartermember/ .

Now, a special message from Vice President Richard B. Cheney:

June 26, 2003

Dear Republican,

Last month, President Bush wrote you asking if you would support his reelection. Today, I write to ask you to play a special role in Bush-Cheney '04.

The President and I would be honored if you would become a Charter Member of Bush-Cheney '04 and would serve as one of our first key grassroots leaders?

Will you take a moment to let us know if you will be a part of our campaign by making your most generous contribution of $100, $500 or even $1000 today at www.GeorgeWBush.com/CharterMember/?

The 2004 election could be very close and, as the President told you in his letter, the outcome will be determined by the strength of our grassroots effort to convince people to support our ticket and then get them out to vote.

That is why President Bush and I are relying on grassroots leaders like you who can help our efforts across the nation.

Your support is especially critical over the next few months, as President Bush must devote his energies to his duties -- fighting the war on terrorism, continuing to strengthen our economy, reforming education, and working for Medicare reform and prescription drugs for our seniors.

When President Bush was elected, he came to office determined to bring dignity and honor to the White House and to change the tone in Washington.

In the face of enormous challenges, the President has made good on both goals. We've worked with Congress to pass tax cuts that are vital to economic growth, a major education reform package, important strengthening of our armed forces and our intelligence capabilities, and vital upgrades in our homeland defenses.

It's a good start, but there is much more to be done. That is why the President is running for reelection. President Bush is a man who finishes what he starts.

Abroad that means working for peace, opportunity and stability around the world. We've had important victories in the war on terrorism but there is still an urgent need to confront the terrorists where they hide and to protect America by bringing them to justice.

On the home front, our goal is to strengthen the economy so everyone can fully participate in the American dream.

To do this, our goal must be to make it possible for every American to own a home, own their own health and retirement plan and, if they want, to own a business.

Our goal must be to focus on results in our schools so that every child learns to read.

Our goal must be to strengthen Medicare and healthcare so patients and doctors -- not lawyers and bureaucrats -- are in charge.

Our goal must be to create the environment in which risk takers and entrepreneurs create more jobs. That means tax cuts to leave more money in the hands of the people who earn it and spending discipline in Washington, D.C.

I believe we can accomplish these goals by reaching out to the American people and working together on the critical issues facing our nation.

But first, we must nominate and reelect the President and put this man of integrity and honor back in the White House for another four years.

Will you help do that by playing a key role in our campaign by making your most generous contribution of $100, $500 or even $1000 today at www.GeorgeWBush.com/CharterMember/?

Your grassroots support of President Bush and me in the 2000 campaign and for other Republican candidates for many years marks you as a leader.

We hope you will become a Charter Member of Bush-Cheney '04 today and join us as an early, key grassroots leader.

It has been an honor to serve this great nation and this great President. I have been privileged to see George W. Bush -- our President -- as few others have. I have watched him face difficult situations almost daily with a calm inner strength, a steely resolve, and a clarity of purpose.

Our nation needs George W. Bush as President for four more years.

Sincerely,

Richard B. Cheney

Dick Cheney

P.S. Your early support with a contribution today at www.GeorgeWBush.com/CharterMember/ will lay the groundwork to help us win in 2004. Thank you.

I agree with you 100% on the Medicare Reform that I saw passed last night!

Most of the House version seems modeled after the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program which is good enough for Congress, but for some reason DemocRATs don't want Seniors to have a choice of plans!

You are right -- this was a cornerstone of his campaign in 2000!

Thanks for giving the facts!

PKM, the bill is estimated to cost $200-$300 billion annually. This is anything but a good thing. In addition to a huge expenditure, this will stifle innovation within the pharma industry.

This thread probably isn't the place to discuss this topic, but I felt I had to respond to your comment.

There is an old Texas saying" "I'd rather be gobbled up by a lion than nibbled to death by ducks"

The problem with this "new" benefit is that it is for a select portion of the population and paid by another select portion of the population. Which, as usual, includes me. The "rich" guy. So, it's just another duck being added that "nibbles" at me.

The way it "should work" is that all these folks that "opt-in" pay premiums that support the whole mess without costing the taxpayer a dime. If it does not work that way the heck with it.

I have liked DC for a long time. I recently uploaded those to my website since I've had occasion when a pic URL would become DOA and I'd lose them. Won't happen with those now.

I clicked on the website and because I have my computer set to warn me about such things--I got the following message:

You have requested a page that uses low grade encryption. The web site has identified itself correctly but information you see or enter on this page could be read by a third party.

I'm rather leary of putting credit card info on a site with that warning. I'm going to call the campaign and tell them about it and see if it gets corrected.
