I did not vote for Kennedy, Carter, or Clinton.
I too was very young when JFK was assasinated.

I did not vote for carter or clinton as a matter of principle. Nor was I old enough to vote for JFK. But JFK gave our nation real hope in a time of dire need with the Cuban Missle crises.........he showed immense fortitude in that dark time and I admire him for that. He also initiated the Moon program. None other has dared even step into his shoes since then. That makes this a very small planet indeed.

But that is not the point. You see, JFK in hindsight may be just a regular guy, but what he did while in term with the Cuban Missle stand down earned me his respect. It is sad to see that he did not observe the first Moon landing that he set our nation's goals upon.

Saint Jack caused the Cuban Missle Crisis by his cowardly abandonment of the men at the Bay of Pigs. This gave Fidel the idea that he could roll the guy at will.

If Saint Jack hadn't stood up in Oct.'62, it would have been the end of the Kennedys as a political force.

And like all Kennedy "events" the end was largly for public consumption as it took years for Saint Jack's quid pro quo concerning the Turkish missle sites to become public knowledge.

I am mostly neutral on the Cuban missile crisis. I'm not convinced he was the shining star the media portrayed him as. There are a number of issues concerning this issue that trouble me.

Kennedy's tax cut and his Moon speach were good. I will admit that Kennedy in this instance showed forsight, but it's very likely the same speach would have been given by any president at that time, no matter who they were.

Space was a very hot topic and the environment and budding space abilities were such that it was a natural to propose what he did. Still, it is true that none have inspired such an effort since IMO. And it shows.

As for him being a 'normal' male. You know better than that.

His stupidity, lack of fortitude, and cowardice with regard to the Soviet Union caused the Cuban Missile Crisis.

>>But JFK gave our nation real hope in a time of dire need with the Cuban Missle crises.........he showed immense fortitude in that dark time <<

I don't know where you heard that, but it's totally incorrect. Castro and JFK were playing a game of chicken and JFK dodged so badly that it was the darkest point of his presidency! I was around then and I remember the collective shame we all had in America.

I met a Cuban man just a few years ago and he told me how devastating it was to those forces who TRUSTED JFK to stand by his word and died believing his promises. He had tears in his eyes as he spoke about his friends dying and I believe we even lost some great American boys on that fiasco.

The Cubans stormed the beaches of Cuba. But JFK called back air support - thereby leaving them totally exposed to be slaughtered.

The only reason JFK is written about in glowing terms is because he was assassinated in Dallas. So-called historians can't get their arms around that sad part of our history so they love to make him out a saint.
