"...we'll do executive orders to overcome any wrong thing the Supreme Court does..."And I guess he, as POTUS, gets to decide what "any wrong thing" is. And why stop with executive orders? Just declare yourself Omnipotent Dick-tator and totally dispense with a minor little thing like the Constitution.

the liberals are in denial because of the way the court released the opinions. They released the first one, upholding civil rights law on principle and then waited a little bit before killing the quota law. CNN already had their people crowing about the decision before the 2nd one even came out while Major Garrett (formerly of CNN) was careful to clarify on FNC that the real decision was still pending. Once the second case ruling came out many libs were already on the record saying they approved of the court's ruling without even realizing that the ultimate result was a 7-3 ruling against the University of Michigan quota program.

If what Gephardt said is reasonable in any sense of the word, why on earth did the Founding Fathers set up a tricameral system of government?
And why the BS about "checks and balances"?

"When I'm president, we'll do executive orders to overcome any wrong thing the Supreme Court does tomorrow or any other day," Gephardt said.In another, related, piece of fiction, a spokesman for the Stupid Party is quoted as saying, "We've got the Democrats where we want'em now. We'll publicize what Gephart said until the cows come home. We're really going to make hay with this one."

Gephardt and Ashcroft both ignore the Constitution. There must be something in the Missouri water.

Given the strict constitutionalist views in this forum, I'm surprised at the strength of support for Marshall's proclamation of the SC power of judicial review.

I keep telling people that our founding fathers DID NOT trust the very system they formed. That's why they broke it up into three parts with its own power and authority to check the other two. It takes a second or two for them to realize the truth.

there is so much wrong here where to start?...
Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich also made a pledge to put affirmative action into federal law as president.
"If this president doesn't want to let us be one nation, then it's time to elect a president who will let us be one nation," Kucinich said.
So, federalize diversity, AND also use the federal gov't to enforce a 'one nation' policy?
Al Sharpton said Democrats shouldn't be talking about getting more blacks in high places, but getting the right blacks.
Nuff said
Any effort to deny our nation's compelling interest in ensuring diversity divisiveness is short-sighted and wrong," Gephardt said in a statement.
"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to runin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation of all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."
Teddy Roosevelt in a speech before the Knights of Columbus.

I agree with that Doctrine. Too bad they didn't do that in the 1970s.

Sharpton also said 'states rights' are what cost Gore the election. And that 'states rights' on education, 'states rights' on health care, and 'states rights' on welfare need to be done away with. He said it in his usual illiterate style, but that's the gist of it. From Rainbow/PUSH conference yesterday. It was a bit frightening. Watching Dean on Meet the Press promising to revoke all of the tax cuts that are going into effect. It's evil.

YES, he did!
That's EXACTLY what Comrade Clintonovich said he would be do if elected, and DID do once elected!
