Please don't make such thoughtless statements. It is not about Bush. He has proven to be less than conservative in many cases. What we need are judges that uphold the constitution...As it was originaly intended. And we need judges that do not like the federal government infringing on state rights. If Bush picks someone who does not meet that criteria then don't support the pick and don't support Bush on the pick. Conservatives need to get back to supporting people based on what they beleve...Not based on who picked them or what party they are from.
Since the 1970's, the idea of the melting pot has gone out of fashion with the growth of multiculturalism. Even the liberal historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. is appalled by multiculturalism. Multiculturalism polarises people and creates divisions, encourages separatism. One example is the absolutely absurd nonsense some Chicanos spout about Aztlan in the Southwest. I knew many of the early Chicano radicals in the University of California system when I was a graduate student in the early 1970s. I have gotten drunk and stoned with a lot of them, and really listened when they talked among themselves. (In English, mind you. few of them spoke any kind of Spanish in those days) The promoters of the Aztlan tripe were almost all Marxists who were explicit that their goal was damage to America, personal power and socialism. They cared not a fig for the poor hispanics.

Outside of language, point to the remaining similarities between modern day America and British culture.

This bit is the key, Luis. You would be shocked about the degree of censorship in practice in Continental Europe, as well as alas, increasingly, Canada. But then Canada has that French influence.
I have to correct myself here. O'Connor wrote the majority opinion supporting the law school case. The reason I'm celebrating is because I thought the undergraduate case would be upheld too. But those who are disappointed are right, the opinion in question was justified by the compelling interest in diversity instead of the law and tangentially, the interest in upholding a meritocracy, which is the only system under which racial relations can improve.

From this offensive comment, I have to conclude that while the majority of us arguing today have been sincere in our intent to define and defend our intellectual heritage, you reveal yourself to be the racist you have deplored. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder regarding white people in this country. While I, too, am from immigrant stock, I was taught as a youngster to love this country's Constitution, the Founding Fathers and the great Westerners who settled our land. To me they remain heroes.
It was dismaying when about 15 years ago, Americans started to identify themselves as x-Americans...Cuban-American, Italian-American, etc. This was an alien concept to my grandparents and parents who might have correctly worn that label. They have taught me that we are all Americans, period. This pride has been worn down by the attacks on our "racist", white heritage by those whose real agenda is to destroy this country. I find in your comments, reflections of such thought, though I'm sure you would protest that you are as patriotic as any American.
This is a sad day in our great country.
