What the two have in common beyond language is a hard wired belief in a robust free press, and the rule of law over the whims of man, in practice as well as an ideal. In these two key facets the sceptred and emerald isles and the fruited plain are quite distinct from most of the planet, including the continent of Europe, when the rubber meets the road. Don't ever forget it.

Justinian pre-dated the idea of the rule of law set forth by the Brits, the concept of free-press may have very well seen its birth in the steps of the Roman Senate.
