Let me give you a wake up call, and explain to you why people have lost all respect for you, and the rest of the Bush bashers in this forum.
It's going to take a few days for people who understand these sorts of things to decipher what this ruling means.
Yet, without having read one single word of it, and while the remainder of the ruling had yet to be issued, you are in here bashing the President, calling this a loss, and claiming that he "caved".

Maybe we should just go ahead and paint her black, and while we're at it, might as well paint the statue of liberty too and change the last phrase of the pledge of allegiance to "liberty and justice for blacks." Libby .. it's not that bad
They ruled that race should be a factor when admitting students to keep diversity ... but it should not be the only factor
They struck down that points on the applications .. meaning that a student should not get more points due to one's race ..

WTF!!?!?!?!
To: Howlin; All
I personally think this is a great moment when you consider this in the historical perspective. This is the first chink in the affirmative action wall since Bakke in 1978. I don't think, considering the bi-polar political environment in this country that one can expect reversals overnight. It's another step in a long struggle.
It is hard to put up with the frustrations we all experience fighting the fight when we have been outnumbered for so long. Let's take our victories for what they are and this is a victory.

Could you clarify the headline? It was accurate for a short while, but the bigger story is that although the mild version used at the law school is okay, the rigid point system used in undergraduate school is not acceptable.
Maybe something like "Supreme Court Rejects Undergrad Affirmative Action, Accepts Milder Law School Scheme"

FNC is saying that race can be a factor but not the only factor. If that's what they're saying, they're knuckleheads. The undergrad policy did not make race the "only" factor. There were other ways that students could earn points other than race.

I'm curious...what are the educational benefits that flow from a diverse student body? Very good question, indeed. It seems to me that they would have to be very great in order to constitute a compelling state interest.

my head is spinning here but could this perhaps happening now totally take race out of election 2004? By next year it will be old news
To: Brian S
Well, it's official. We're no better off with Bush than we would have been with Gore.
Total crap.
To: Carolinamom
Does this SC decision on admissions policy in Michigan automatically apply to other state universities w/similar or same policies?
If this ruling is as muddy and non-decisive as it sounds, every single university admission policy will be open to challenge.
They refuse to come out and state clearly whether racial preferences are constitutional.

If anyone ever allows Rita Cosby to get anywhere near the SCOTUS to announce a decision, they should be shot!
