Rachel Corrie Spotted with Che and Mumia
By Jawad Ali
The Mission District in San Francisco is my new home. There are murals blossoming everywhere in this neighborhood that depict uplifting images of global struggles. The walls are covered with breathtaking images of nature, triumphant women of color, ancient cultures, community pride and all the modern heroes of social change. Courtesy of precitaeyes.org
It came to me as no surprise that a freshly painted Rachel Corrie had joined the ranks of Caesar Chavez and Malcolm X as the young hero of the downtrodden. In this mural she is seen lending her strength and beauty to the struggles of Che Guevara and Mumia Abu Jamal and a host of others.
Images of kafiyyah clad men and women have long adorned the walls and facades of such prominent San Francisco landmarks as the Womens Building. The most famous of these murals is the one painted by Break the Silence Mural and Arts Project.
Break the Silence began 12 years ago when four Jewish American artists traveled to the West Bank city of Ramallah and worked on a series of community mural projects with Palestinian community members and artists. Upon returning from that first trip in 1989, the artists presented reflections on their experiences to approximately 100 audiences in high schools, universities, art galleries and community centers across the United States.
In 1990, BTS painted a mural in San Francisco about the Palestinian right to a homeland. This mural made connections between issues of "home" in San Francisco's Mission District and in Palestine. In the summer of 2001, the Bay Guardian ran a story about how repeated vandalism had caused the mural to be boarded up.
Look out for Corrie. Protect her from the "friends of Israel." The first reader to correctly identify the location of the new Rachel Corrie mural will win a small, and probably worthless, prize from Muslim Wakeup. Click on the picture of the BTS mural to see a larger version.

Che Guevara and Mumia Abu Jamal; what a couple of dirtbags to be stuck between.

That these two young, not ugly or stupid-looking women would waste their time on promoting such idiotic politics.I was in a store the other day and noticed that either Time or Newsweek (darn, my memory is bad tonight and I was in a hurry when I saw this) has some kind of special magazine out featuring three of the greatest revolutionary genius thinkers of all time or something like that. I don't even remember who the other two were because I was so aghast the third one was KARL MARX. Seems to me people are being encouraged to waste their time on such idiotic politics.

Acetone is a very good paint remover. Be careful where you spill it, it disolves most paints.

Rachel Corrie is hopefully rotting in hell with the terrorist scum she loved so dearly.

I don't wish ill on her. She was very young and came up in a time and in a society with a lot of socialist-inspired anti-American and anti-Israeli propaganda. When I was her age Ronaldus Magnus was President. And although I didn't go over to a foreign country and make a nuisance of myself my thoughts on ol' Dutch were a lot different then than they are now. I believe in allowing the young their youthful folly. I don't think anything Rachel Corrie did was all that harmful. I'm sorry she didn't live longer and wise up. May God bless and keep her soul.

...three of the greatest revolutionary genius thinkers of all time or something like that. I don't even remember who the other two were because I was so aghast the third one was KARL MARX. If greatest is meant as having the most impact, and not as being morally or philosophically correct, then Marx does belong up there. His philosophy is ultimately responsible for the vast majority of war and genocide in the twentieth century.

I understand that and if my brain was working properly this evening, I would've mentioned something to that effect. I was just thinking that it seemed a little too positive and perhaps promotional.

yam, this girl was raised by old hippies to conform to communist ideals. Her parents (and yes, Dad's a Vietnam veteran) took special care to shape her ideals toward their own values. Putting her through an all-leftist curriculum at a leftist school adds up to child abuse in my book. Now the parents have gone to Congress to ask for compensation for their foolish, heart-breaking waste. So ironic that a Communist government wouldn't ever grant them a hearing.

His philosophy is ultimately responsible for the vast majority of war and genocide in the twentieth century. He wasn't correct in practice either. If Marx were alive today, he'd probably be just another Usenet kook.

When I was in Boston, I heard that the commie bookstore in Harvard Square had a shirt for sale in the window that said "Mao Was Right". This was right after the Tiennimin Square massacre. I still have radio tapes of the Chinese Communists claiming it was all a lie.
