David Greenglass: Twice a Traitor

On June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for passing secrets of the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. In their trial, the primary witness against Ethel was her brother, David Greenglass. Greenglass was also convicted of spying and sentenced to prison, but he was released in 1960. Now, he's finally telling his side of the story.

This is David Greenglass's extraordinary story, including the shocking revelation that he lied on the stand and sent his own sister to the electric chair! TV G

"Was he lying then or is he lying now?"

He's a leftist, he's lying always.

That's exactly what I thought. I was just responding with a rhetorical question.

WOW!!! you are indeed, special. Anti-Communist Demoncrats for parents.. I didn't know such existed!!! Kudos also, for extraordinary resistance to left wing "public indoctrination centers". I salute you!

I just happened to have good ol Right-Wing Republicans for parents, still have my Mother, my Dad passed away last year, but they kept me on the straight and narrow, with what would probably qualify as "child abuse" nowadays, but I feel fortunate that they did believe in dicipline and a good upbringing, and I learned very early in life to look for "Commies under every rock". (I still do, as a matter of fact)

Fortunately, I managed to get thru the school years without being corrupted by the leftist horde which now is ubiquitous ( That being said, I did go to Catholic School until 10th grade, when I was expelled for riding a motorcycle (Drunk) thru a glass door (Yup, even if I was a Darwin Award contender at that point, I managed to get my head together (really bad pun here, sorry), and learned early on about AA ;-) which enabled me to finish my education, military service, all the clearances, etc, and stay alive, safe, and happily married after 34 years. Strangely enough, my daughter, who graduated from High School in 1990, had the same experience as I ( without the motorcycle or the booze though), however, she. like I, did go to Catholic School for the first 8 years, and as liberal as those particular institutions have become, she managed to avoid the worst..and is a FReeper (trinity 1..so the line continues.

Of course, my favorite line now is "Don't be fooled that Communism is dead, they just changed their name to the Democratic National Committee" LOL.

Keep the Faith for Freedom

one "remains silent" (but grins) ;-)

I prefer to say "I could tell you, but then I'd have to shoot you" before grinning. :). Actually lots of stuff does get officially declassified, but by then you don't have access (in a physical not necessarily a clearance sense) and so never find out that it was declassified. Some stuff is exempt from declassification.

"I thought the KGB files were opened a couple of years ago and definitely implicated the Rosenbergs..."

That's right. Julius was code-named "Antenna," then "Liberal" by the NKVD. Ethel was an active and witting participant.

"and the files said that 'liberal's' wife wasn't a part of the game."

You're joking, right? Feklissov himself describes her participation in their schemes. She carried large sums of Soviet money back and forth for them, acted as messenger to cohorts, engaged in elaborate ruses to assist Feklissov and Julius in their efforts to evade the FBI.

Why should I care? A spy is a spy..

I don't care if they were spying for Walt Disney.. who knows where that info wound up before it was all over and done with.

I would personally throw the switch on all of them, regardless of race or who (we think) they were spying for.

It's frankly a little troubling to me that some people would not.

The Rosenberg defenders who, for years, swore Julius and Ethel were 100% innocent claimed they would believe otherwise only if the Soviets admitted it. This just parallels the Clinton's two main liberal philosophies...

(1.) Tell a lie often enough to win over public opinion and it becomes the truth.

(2.)Ride that horse as far as it will take you and hope nobody gives a damn anymore that you were eventually proven to have lied in the first place.

To bvw:

You really don't know what you are talking about my friend.

I thought the same as you until I looked at the facts. I am Jewish btw (just check my freep page) and I researched the Facts the other day here at Free Republic on this thread:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/929408/posts

"Yes, They Were Guilty. But of What Exactly? [NYT FINALLY admits Rosenbergs were guilty!]" (name of thread from NYT).

This is what we found out from researching that thread:

* The Rosenbergs did NOT have to die.
Eisenhower and the FBI kept communication open with them and had a special phone line just for them in order for them to confess. They chose not to confess. Why? I'm not sure except they felt that being a Communist or a martyr to their cause would prove something to the world. Ethel called America a "fascist state" (sound familiar?). Eisenhower did NOT want them to die.

*The Rosenbergs were guilty.
The Van. files from the Soviet Union showed that they were in fact spies.

I did not see the History Channel's airing of David Greenglass and therefore I am unable to judge whether he is telling the truth now or was telling the truth then.

*McCarthy was not an anti-Semite, he was pro-USA.
History has shown (through the Van. files, etc) that McCarthy was right. The Left has scapegoated him, but we can see today through our own country/universities/government that the Left/Communism has infiltrated everywhere. There is no Joe McCarthy to hold them back today. I too believed that the Rosenbergs died through some weird anti-Semitism of the USA until I actually read the facts on the first thread I pointed you too. Yes, until that night I believed as you do. I did a lot of research on it btw, so you might want to read it. The proof is there my friend.

Ann Coulter's new book "Treason" is going to go into these points and more.

This is the Ann Coulter thread:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/931964/posts

Please read that one as well for more information.

What odd and unfounded statements you make.

If you had read the fifth amendment to the Constitution, you would have seen that the founding fathers granted this authority. Just because you say the Federal government had no authority to execute the Rosenbergs does not make it true.

It is also a grave error for you to claim these spies were executed because of their ethnicity and not their crimes.

Doesn't count. Not officially. Korea was a "police action" whatever the heck that is. On the record, the SOVIETS were our allies.

Why not. By what official authority? By what record? Were you alive then? By the 1950s Stalin's regime was our arch-enemy.

At that time China was not the independant power that it has become, the Soviet Communist Party under Stalin controlled ALL Communist leaders, including Mao and Kim Il Sung. Stalin was the Capo di Tuti Capi of the entire communist bloc, and by the 1950s his regime was viewed by Americans as tantamount to Hitler's regime. Our wartime alliance with the Russians ended, and the Cold War began shortly after the end of WW2. In 1948, Stalin cordoned off Berlin, trying to starve out the parts of the city controlled by the allies, resulting in the Berlin Airlift, resulting a year later in the establishment of NATO to counter the Soviet threat.

By the Time the Rosenburgs were fried in 1953, the Soviets were well established as our official Number 1 enemy on the face of the earth, and the prospect of them getting the A-Bomb was our Number 1 fear. The Rosenburgs were most CERTAINLY not spying for an "ally".

Oh, BTW, "police action" was a convenient term somebody thought up at the time to describe a war that had not been declared war by Congress.

Korea was a real war. We thought of it as a real war. And the Koreans and Chinese were part of what was called the Soviet "Satellite System", under the direct control of Stalin.

Read the fifth amendment. It totally negates your argument about the federal authority granted by the founding fathers.

Quit playing word games and changing the subject. The federal government had the authority to execute the Rosenbergs.

Did you see the show last night? Probably will repeat in the next few days. Greenglass was not a sympathetic interviewee. Neither was Sorbel who said Greenglass was doing "the devil's work" when he cooperated with the Feds.
