With the California ballot initiative to remove Governor Gray-Out Davis in a recall election looking likely to succeed, two Democrats did an LBJ and said, "We won't run." I rolled you audio of The Meathead, Rob Reiner, saying this was "misguided" and "a bad way to conduct democracy." This initiative is not only democratic, it's 100% pure democracy. You get 900,000 signatures (probably 1.3 million will be sought to make up for any fraudulent ones) and toss out a governor who has deceived the people and bungled their finances.
The All in the Family alum says this because it's likely that Republican actor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be written in to replace Gray-Out. Reiner made some hilariously absurd statements about this on Good Morning America. I guess he's one of these elitists who thinks laws only apply to Republicans, and that Democrats have a divine right to rule. Quote: "[T]he scary part is you've got a couple of well-funded Republicans out there that want to essentially steal an election. And the idea that you could govern the sixth largest economy in the world with 15 to 20% of the vote is very scary to me." What's scary is the idea that you could destroy the sixth largest economy of the world, as Davis has done.
Davis is turning his people into nothing more than serfs who'll work more to pay taxes than for food, clothing, rent and health care combined! Yet Meathead, who harbors gubernatorial delusions himself, rails against Arnold because "Republicans have this aversion to raising taxes." Yes, we do have an aversion to forcing people to work more hours and weeks as slaves to the government just so you can buy votes with programs that don't work! The last time I was in California, I didn't even address the state's election. One guy asked, "What about us in California?" during the Q&A section and I responded, "You're screwed. The good thing for me is I'm leaving here tomorrow. You can't."
This is a state that gives away citizens' money to people that don't even live there! Democracy isn't a dictator telling the idiot people what to do with their money, Meathead. Yet when the people of California voted not to provide welfare benefits and health care benefits to illegal - read "breaking the law" - aliens, a liberal judge overruled them. If you mention this to Democrats, they'll sneer, "Well, do you want to wash my dishes and pick my grapes, because there are jobs Americans won't do!" If you need those jobs done, then you pay for the health care of those who do them and bring them here legally! Or maybe do those jobs yourself, huh? Did that ever occur to you elitist slobs? Noooo. Your first, last and only answer to any need is, "Hey! Let's vote to force other people to pay for it!"
What's intereting here is that no one ever considered Steve Wesley, just elected Controller last November, as a real option to run to replace Davis. The fact that Wesley felt obliged to come out and say "I won't run" indicates that he, and only he, ever thought he might run. In his denial is the kernal of the truth -- he'd really like to run to replace Davis.
BTW, good graphic.

Seems the gambling interests in CA have come up with a plan to help the ailing California economy.
Got a call last night - opinion poll - asking how I felt about an initiative to authorize slot machines in card rooms and race tracks. Suggestive questions of the poll say that said slots will produce 2 billion dollars into state coffers.
Hahahahahahaha
The card rooms and tracks are feeling the heat from the Indian casinos and want to add this sort of thing to survive. Personally, I think the state should just go ahead and legalize casino gambling, since the Indians are going to blanket the state anyway. And then, at least, it could tax and regulate the non-Indian casinos. Personally, I won't set foot in an Indian establishment, because there's no regulation and I think their games are crooked.
But it does't scare him to leave a guy in office who has a 15% - 20% approval rating and has done more than any single human to destroy that economy?
Absolutely, they both crawled out from under the same hot rock.

What it says is there is a huge amount of pressure being put on all Democrats to announce that they refuse to be on the ballot. If the Davis camp can keep all Democrats off the ballot, Democrat voters will have just one choice in the fall election. Keep Davis or elect a Republican. The Democrats obviously think with tens of millions of dollars worth of Democrat ads the result of the recall will be just like the 2002 election. They will paint the Republican candidate as wild eyed conservative for which no self respecting Human could vote. To win Davis does not even have to get half the independents. He needs just 1/3 or even less.
The most likely result is Davis wins and becomes the giant no one can defeat.
Certainly the White House will do all it can to prevent any Republicans with stature from getting on the ballot, and Bush will pull every chain to shut of the money flow to the Republican fringe in California. The million bucks or so the Recall has raised is peanuts. Davis will raise tens of millions and spend them while the othes on the ballot get next to no funds for advertising. There will be few if any Republican dollars... Bush will see to that.
For the right wing Republicans in California the best hope is that pro abortion, pro gun control, pro taxes, Swartzenegger lets his name be put on the ballot. That way one result would be a damaged goods Republican Governor more liberal than Riordan and hated by the right wing base. When he has to do all the nasty things to fix the budget and to get that done will sign all the socialist agenda into law, you all will be very happy.
Your choices are a very liberal RINO or Davis and that is all there is to that tune. There will be more liberal legislation passed with a RINO than with Davis.
I agree. I will play at the Indian casinos, but I only play poker where I am betting against other players, not the house. However most of the Indian casinos I've seen don't have poker rooms anyway.
