At those speeds, there's not much of a difference.

None of it is right and neither is Catholic Bashing--a common practice on the FR.

When a comical clown like Swaggart gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar, it's an occasion for humor; when one of Our Guys gets busted, it's news. Why? Because the Enemy knows we're For Real, that's why; we rate the deluxe treatment. Jimmy Swaggert WAS NEWS for a long time. I am not a member of the Assembies of God denomination, but they wasted no time defrocking him when his immoral behavior was discovered. Can't really say that about the Roman Catholic Church. The problem with the Roman Catholic Church and some, but not even nearly a majority of Roman Catholics, is that its claims to be the only true Church may be a reason it has attempted to hide the corruption and sexual abuse within its organization. After all, it is reasonable to conclude that God's church would not tolerate priests who sexually abuse its members.
I will readily agree that the Roman Catholic Church does not have a monopoly in this thinking. There is that organization based in SLC and even some protestant denominations that have tried to cover up these types of crimes as well.
What we must remamber is that a man-created organization, and the Roman Catholic Church is a man-created organization, is not the Catholic (i.e. universal church) Church. The Church is the body of all those who profess Christ as their personal Savior, regardless of discriptive labels they or others put on them.
It seems to me that for the most part, churches within denominations in which local congregations are pretty much independent and non-denominational churches quickly address problems of sexual abuse and serious moral sins of its local leadership. They seem to be much less likely to attempt to cover it up, or at least be less successful at covering it up; althougn I have no doubt that it does happen.

With all due respect----bullshit!
Good. Then prove me wrong. The next time a Mahoney thread comes up, I'll expect to see you there venting your spleen on him -- probably the worst of the lot.

LOL! Only in California!
He looks like an Episcopalian, I'm ashamed to say. But definitely of the "low and lazy" variety.

what's taking so long in Los Angeles?Mahony 1 Keating 0.

What you consider Catholic Bashing is probably a little different from what I consider it...

With so many to pick from... how can one even make a judgment?
To: Antoninus
I've been trashing Mahoney for three days, for his caustic "last straw" remarks against Keating! I didn't see you on any of THOSE threads.
Mahoney's a stonewalling, money-wasting clown. He's got that Liberace look, with the long fingers and swishing movements, that tells everybody where he's coming from.
Egan and Mahoney are the single two worst bishops in the American Church. They've got lots of skeletons, and they're both gay themselves.

No. St. Louis where the average speed is about 10-15 MPH over the posted "limit" - including the cops. Unless you're in North County. Our worst problem is the rolling stop which injures it's fair share of people every year.

Of the ones living, Mahony is the worst - bar none.
To: Desdemona
Anyone who has lived anytime in Phx should be accustomed to driving on surface streets... why is that? Because we aren't known for our freeways...

So you think you have a right to determin what gives comfort to someone else? How interesting. Just when did you start feeling so superior? Why is it you feel you have to come on a thread where people happen to believe and trash their beliefs? Sounds like you have a bit of a problem and are so insecure in YOUR beliefs that the only way you can feel adequate is to trash others. Sorry you feel so small.
To: Desdemona
O'Brien seems to be doing a fairly good job of it...
Right after his consent agreement in which he admitted he obstructed justice... he came out publicly and stated he didn't...
The only reason our County atty entered into the consent agreement in the first place was because he felt getting considerations about how the church treated victims and children was more important than putting his butt in jail...
Guess he didn't foresee this coming... The consent agreement is pretty much useless now...
BTW, the church in Phoenix reimbursed Romley for all expenses in relation to the investigation... which included the cost in salaries for 10 staff for over a year...
I really don't know how or why people keep putting money in the collection plate...
To: Aliska
Yeah, well I wish you would have made that smaller before pulling it in to this thread. It really slows things down. Please accept my apologies.

Well, in researching something else, I stubbled on the concept of Catholic development (fund-raising - BIG time). I don't think it's all coming from the collection plate at the diocesan level. And, really, there is no reason to withhold money when you're talking about salaries of needed lay staff and utilities. That's where a lot of it goes.
To: Desdemona
They had to sell off 1/2 of their land holdings in Phoenix for Romney's consent agreement...

In fact, you can add Cardinal Law to the list. He wouldn't have been so anxious to cover up unless he was homosexual himself.
Now, who in the press or law enforcement is going to come up with the evidence that we have at least three queer cardinals in the USA?
