Firefighters set drug house on fire 06/11/2003
By MARK BOONE / 6NEWS
A known drug house in north Charlotte goes up in flames and it's no accident.
Firefighters set the fire at a house near Statesville Avenue and I-85 Wednesday morning.
Police say the house has been a haven for drug dealers and prostitutes. The problem is so bad, the owner of the rental house agreed to let the city burn the building down.
Neighbors say the house has been a nuisance for several years, attracting all kinds of criminal activity.
The demolition is also a training exercise for Charlotte's newest firefighters. It's the last of several training drills in a 16-week academy.
Police hope the end of this house will bring an end to years of crime in this neighborhood.
The property owner hopes to build a business on the property.

I have to admit, I don't understand what burning down the house will do. It's not like crime doesn't know how to relocate.

I have to admit, I don't understand what burning down the house will do I dunno, not sure who want to rent it - and I don't think I would feel all warm and fuzzy in a house once used for who know's what kind of sexual things....yeck. Who knows what sort of diseases are lurking there :) If I owned it I think I would be burning it down too, or at least leave it up and be a customer, got to be worth a discount when the landlord comes over to party ;)

Kinda reminds me of Bradbury's Farhenheit 451. We're really running down the rabbit hole a bit too fast these days aren't we?

The owner and neighbors are more victims of the War On Some Drugs.

From Farhenheit 451:
We know the damn silly thing we just did. We know all the damn silly things weve done for a thousand years and as long as we know that and always have it around where we can see it, someday well stop making the goddamn funeral pyres and jumping in the middle of them. He goes on, But even when we had the books on hand, a long time ago, we didnt use what we got out of them.

Do they know how many drug dealers were inside when they torched it?
