I remember the National Geographic documentary on lions from a few years ago. It showed that when new males moved in and took over an existing pride, they would kill all of the cubs so that the females would come into heat and the new males could sire cubs of their own.

With all of these stories in the news, I can't help but believe that there is some residual, instinctive behavior in humans that motivates men to do the same thing.

Obviously this is a cover story and a lame one at that. No 2-year-old I ever knew would engage in a "stomach punching" contest. Most likely the man was pissed he had to interrupt whatever he was doing to deal with a messy diaper and he took it out on the child.

I know of a case where a guy killed a child by kicking it in the abdomen resulting in a split liver. My feeling is that this kid was hit harder than the creep is letting on. They should just take him out back and shoot him.

Any dad (like me) who plays rough house with a boy toddler basically entails the dad lying on the floor and letting the child jump all over you as they live out their little fantasy of "whupping daddy" or whatvever imaginary combat they are envisioning from cartoons or fairy tales. My 3 year old also likes to pick up sticks in the yard and play "swords"....obviously I don't stick him....you clash sticks and pretend to swashbuckle...lots of posing.

I cannot imagine hitting a child with a punch...as this man described. I don't buy it.
