Muslims protest TV show on bombers

Muslim groups have protested the screening of a television thriller that depicts a school for suicide bombers in a mosque, saying it would incite hatred against their communities.
"We can't deny that the BBC have a right to screen a drama -- it is topical," said Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain.
But the treatment of the subject "panders to very negative stereotypes of Imams, Muslim students and mosques" and may lead to attacks on Muslims, he said.
The BBC was to air later on Monday on its main channel an episode of the intelligence drama "Spooks", screened on a digital channel last week, showing a mosque in the central city of Birmingham teaching boys how to become suicide bombers.
The BBC said it would not pull the episode, noting that it was fiction and it also casts some Muslims in a positive light.
"It is about a dangerous extremist, perverting traditional teaching and a brave, devout man who is prepared to give his life to stop it," a BBC spokeswoman said.
"(Security services) MI5 are shown to be powerless without his help and that of the Islamic community."
Muslim groups said they feared negative media depictions of their communities would spark anti-Islamic attacks, already on the upswing since the September 11, 2001 attacks on U.S. cities.
Many British Muslims, who make up 1.6 million of a total population of 58 million people, have said they feel increasing hostility against them since the September 11 attacks.
Militant clerics, like Abu Hamza al-Masri in London, who praised the strikes on the U.S. also fanned animosity against the majority of Muslims, according to moderates.

negative media depictions of their communities Is this an admission that their communities are all terrorist communities? I had thought that bomber orgs were kind of underground sub cults even in Islamic states.

Why is it that the Muslim community have no trouble making their voices heard regarding anything "anti-muslim", yet we barely hear a whisper against the extremists of their religion? We heard them loud and clear celebrating 9-11, and that's all I need to know about their "religion of peace".
To: veronica
Yeah, I think these Muslim groups need to realize that we don't resort to violence as easily as they do.

"panders to very negative stereotypes of Imans, Muslim students and mosques"
Who is this joker trying to lie to? Maybe a few attacks on these mosques, radical Imans and muslim students would make these terrorists wise up and stop their putrid hate speeches. Below is what the newly installed Iman in Rome had to say about the "religion that promotes violence":
"The new Imam of the Grand Mosque of Rome, the largest in Europe, called for the "victory of Islamic fighters in Palestine, Chechnya and other areas of the world" in his sermon last Friday. He called for Allah's help in "the destruction of the homes and destruction of the enemies of Islam", for their "annihilation", and "the victory everywhere of the Nation of Islam."
Yep, every last one of those imams need a real good dose of their own medicine while their preaching their vile, putrid speeches in their so-called buildings. Down with these radical imans, mosques and muslims!

Maybe a few attacks on these mosques, radical Imans and muslim students..... would make these terrorists wise up and stop their putrid hate speeches.
Actually that is what they want, then their rhetoric would really have meaning.
We are beyond that, in a nation of laws.
Although another MAJOR attack and all bets are off.

If they don't pull the program, the Muslims will bomb the BBC to show how false the portrayal is.

Hear! Hear!
If islam is such a great religion (and it is NOT), why are millions of muslims migrating to Europe, USA, and South America? Simple. To find what is NOT available to them in the muslim dominated countries they left: FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY! There are relatively few converts, in relation to the overall number of migrants, in the non-muslim countries. But once they have settled into a non-muslim host, they immediately demand we, the non-muslims, accord them every freedom we have enjoyed for centuries. SICKENING when we allow them to dominate the agenda.

Truth hurts. While I can't condone unprovoked attacks on muslins, Jesus didn't say what to do after the other cheek was struck...

Funny how Jesus picked a part of the body you only have 2 of...he didn't pick fingers...or toes...or hairs on your head...he picked 'cheek'. Regardless of the higher ones or lower ones...you only have two.

But the treatment of the subject "panders to very negative stereotypes of Imams, Muslim students and mosques" and may lead to attacks on Muslims, he said. Oh really? well then maybe the Muslim community should wise up to what effect their failure to denounce their brethren's actions is having.
