[history]
A Manhattan church that rented space to a synagogue tossed its tenants into the street and locked the doors yesterday in a tenant-landlord dispute allegedly prompted by terroristic threats against the Jewish worshippers.
Rabbi Bruce L. Cohen - who was forced to perform a bar mitzvah at his home yesterday after being shut out of Rock Church at 153 E. 62nd St. - said one reason a church official gave him for evicting Congregation Beth-El of Manhattan Messianic Synagogue was because an "Arab-looking man" had threatened the church to "get rid of the Jews - or else."

CAIR thinks that scrutinizing suspicious behavior by individuals of middle eastern appearance is a hate crime. But this is not one. Right.

How do you tell Arabs and Jews apart? Especially in NEW YORK? They look exactly the same, i know because i lived in NY for many year.
Shame on the Bishop for throwing them out. They should protect them, not throw them in the streets.

the church should have hired armed guards and turned the matter over to the FBI ... we can't yield to these Islamofacists ... we stand now, or we retreat forever.

How do you tell Arabs and Jews apart? I'm not sure why this matters. Had it been an Asian-appearing person, or a Mormon elder making the threat, the implications are the same.
Of course, it's pretty unlikely that an Asian or a Mormon elder would make such a threat, while, on the other hand, such threats are the typical stock-in-trade of Islam, particularly in other countries.

But instead of talks, Cohen said he received a flurry of letters telling him he had until May 31 to leave the premises. One letter contained a list of reasons for eviction, including a claim by the church that an "Arab-looking man" had verbally threatened them to "get rid of the Jews," the rabbi said.
"When we challenged them about the letters, the church told us they had received two Muslim threats saying, 'Get rid of the Jews - or else,' " Cohen said. "We said, 'You can't throw us out on the basis of that.' "
He produced a typewritten letter, hand-dated Oct. 19, 2002, that said in part that "threats have been made against 'Rock Church' because their premises are being used by Congregation Beth-El." The missive provided three months notice of eviction.
Police said yesterday they had no knowledge of any threats against the church and that they were considering the matter a civil one involving a letter of agreement, not a lease.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the "threats" were written by a church official, as a way to get rid of the synagogue, in favor of more profitable tenants.

And I think the "Arab-looking" man is imaginary. This is so bogus...If there were real threats , why didn't the church officials contact the police? This is strictly financial .

There is a persecution coming against the church. This church won't survive. It hasn't learned the lesson of suffering for righteousness sake.

Agreed. Something about this doesn't pass the smell test.

"We think it's morally reprehensible that they said, 'Get rid of the Jews,' and the church just said, 'OK,' " Cohen said. "It would have been a better example if the Christians had said, 'Over our dead bodies.' "
I would've preferred that they did that too. You can't cave in to terrorists.
