Is lying about the reason for a war an impeachable offense?
www.cnn.com ^ | 6/6/03 | John Dean

Edited on 04/29/2004 2:02:39 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Now it is clear that many of his statements appear to be false. In the past, Bush's White House has been very good at sweeping ugly issues like this under the carpet, and out of sight. But it is not clear that they will be able to make the question of what happened to Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) go away -- unless, perhaps, they start another war.

Look, where was the obligatory BARF ALERT on this piece? I guess we should consider the same, since the author is John Dean, and cnn.com is the source, but it still would be nice.

Secondly, I hope and pray the 'rats try something like this...it'd be so nice to see them deteriorate further.

Sorry for the duplicate, portion. What I wanted to copy in addition is this: Daschle was pushing to have removal of WMD a major cause, when in fact the resolution clearly stated numerous other reasons as well, not only removal of WMD, and clearly he speaks as someone who strongly believes that Saddam does indeed have WMD, which poses a significant threat to the US.

http://www.senate.gov/~daschle/pdf/iraqresolution101002.pdf

Second: We need to make it clear to the world that the reason we would use force in Iraq is to remove
Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction. I would prefer that this goal had been made explicit in this
resolution. However, it is clear from this debate that Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction are the principal
threat to the United States -- and the only threat that would justify the use of United States military force
against Iraq. It is the threat that the President cited repeatedly in his speech to the American people Monday
night. It may also be the only threat that can rally the world to support our efforts. Therefore, we expect, and
success demands, that the Administration not lose sight of this essential mission.

What a bunch of BS, if Saddam had no WMD programs then why are there a bunch of Iraqis with radiation sickness around a "looted" nuke facility.

No, I don't believe the info was bad. I do know that Bush made a statement about uranium sales from Africa which was known to be false for a significant period of time beforehand-- during a state of the union speech, no less. If weapons aren't found and evidence shows that many underlings knew weapons weren't there at the start of the war, then I hold Bush blameless. I blame the underlings who have an agenda-- those who withheld information from the president and stated rumors as absolute fact to the president. Bush's actions are only as good as the information Bush gets which he uses to act.

CNN wishes. The fact that a)Sodom violated the terms that led to the halting of PGW I, b)he kicked out inspectors while boatloads of documented, undestroyed WMDs were still unaccounted for and c)the UN (the mother of all loser organizations) unanimously voted that Iraq was in violation and steps were necessary to curb their possible intentions all lead to more than enough rationale for Sodom's regime having been dismantled. The WMD facts are well documented, regardless of if or when we find out where the WMDs are.

All the other good reasons for taking out Iraq still carry the day, because they have already been verified and corroborated. I feel strongly that the ultimate fate of the WMDs will surface in the not so distant future. Even if not, the case, based on WMDs, is easy to make.

In general, though, the RATS never have and never will play fair, so screw'em every chance we get.

"Bush's actions are only as good as the information Bush gets which he uses to act."

But those who are saying that the President lied, do not mention that often it is the bureaucracy which pushes an agenda in Washington. Haven't President all along, been at the mercy of those who work at his pleasure?

This scenario is familiar. Remember Hillary screeching in the Senate, claiming that Bush knew that 9-11 was going to happen? And Katie Couric, on the Today Show, saying, "What did he know, and when did he know it?" The public remembers the soundbite, and this fuels their distrust of the Bush administration, which admittedly is secretive. And this furthers their interest, when it comes to impeachment. I wonder if WMD and impeachment will be the battle cry, throughout the summer months.

I have always regarded John Dean as a scoundrel, not a hero of Watergate. Therefore, I am not at all surprised by his insinuations.

The regime of SoDamn Insane had 13 years to perfect the game of hide and seek with WMD that they played, yet the Rat-Ba*tards want the WMD found lickety split. It will take time but I am sure that they will find the evidence they need to show up the dumb-asses like "KKK" Byrd, Ted "Chappaquiddick" Kennedy, and the rest of those socialist fools that the DemocRATs have in their cesspool.

John dean must be on cheap drugs now!

Question - "What do you call one Democrat at the bottom of the ocean?"
Answer = "A GOOD START!"

I believe Bush did not lie. He was lied to by his staff (possibly Cheney included)-- if it turns out WMD were not in Iraq just prior to the war. It's real easy to give a president only the information you want him to know so that he acts the way you want him to. Bush does no independent information gathering. He's totally dependent on others for information.

Yes, this is the John Dean who stole documents from his client (President Nixon), then bargained for immunity.

As soon as I saw his name, I didn't even bother reading the article.

I meant it when I said Bubba has more credibility than Dean. It's a new low for CNN.

It's a good sign for Dubya, though. It's obvious that nobody with an ounce of credibility or sense is jumping on the WMD-gate bandwagon.

Saddam himself in his reports to the UN listed his weapons of mass destruction, amounts etc. It is possible that Saddam was leading us on. But why? All he had to do was fess up and he'd still be there. President Bush would not lie to the Country, nor would be present facts he knew to be false. Saddam did gass the Kurds, and all those mass graves are testimony to his murderous regime. It is possible that weaponry was taken out of the country, and is
very likely what happened. Suggsting that this President is lying to us is something I expect of Dean, but not from a conservative republican. You can count on the fact that this President is an honest man, whose word is his bond.

So then, how do you elimate a piranha threat?

Drain the lake and the river will dry up long enough to kill all the fish.

I am very sure that Bush is holding out on the press and soon, esp. after the impeachment ballon has been floating out there a little while, he will release the inoformation he already has and some inspectors will find some WMD's that even Saddam forgot about. And all the detractor will be left standing there with egg on their faces.

But in the meantime we must stop them from being able to whip up a frenzy and brainwash the public with their lies.

Here is a great thread, containing links to a lot of very pertinent articles: ammunition against the Democrats, the truth.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/925044/posts

Remember the saying: "all that is needed for evil to succeed, is for the good to do nothing".

We shouldn't just sit back and wait for Bush to fight the Democrats, we must help and fight them with truth and information every step of the way.

You know If I was John Dean, I'd be real carefull about shooting my mouth off, unlesse I had really good documentation for my claims. Let I get an O'Dark Thirty visit from G.G. Liddy and/or one of his sons...or Dean's case one of Liddy's daughters...or worse... Mrs. Liddy.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Democrats are lying NOW about claiming that there wasn't enough evidence?

They surely seemed very convinced before.

Check out this thread with links to articles about proof of WMD and statements of Democrats themselves, including Clinton and Daschle showing they are convinced by the evidence about Iraq's WMD.
