In any society, criminals prey on the weak and vulnerable. It’s the peculiar genius of government policy to have ensured that in British society everyone is weak and vulnerable - ...

One of my favorite quotes in this article. So true!

It's interesting that old Tony Martin only wounded a 2nd burglar that broke in. Perp #2 is now out of jail and suing Martin for loss of "sexual prowess" and not being able to physically work out at the gym.
Meanwhile, Martin's conviction was reduced to manslaughter, but they won't let him out due to lack of "remorse" in shooting these two criminals.

If you want to spend a few years in court being sued by some home invader for his injuries, I have no objections.

I would not walk over to apply a coup d'grace. (It would not be needed.)

But I would certainly not shoot to wound.

Call it what you want, when you aim for a criminal's heart or brain you are shooting to kill. If PC euphamisms like "shoot to stop" (with a .45 to the heart!) are your style, that's fine with me.

A little dose of realism is required...

Average "Joe citizen", faced with the REAL need to take action against a threat to life --- should not strategize on how best to address the situation....wound, hold for the police, hand cuff, etc.....

If armed -- the homeowner should ONLY verifiy identity of the "intruder".....and then if it's a stranger in your home --- position for a clear safe shot, and if the bastard doesn't immediatly throw his empty hands in the air, fall to the floor begging for life --- empty the magazine on the bastard in an act of "terror and fear for one's life"....

If you've had a bad day.....ignore his pleas for mercy.

Then repeat the mantra, "I was in fear for my life," over and over.

While that's no reason to keep shooting an injured person that no longer poses you any threat, it's not very smart to only go for the "legs" or "arms" in order to try and not kill them while shooting.

A center-of-mass shot has a higher probability of stopping an assailant than an "arm" or "leg" shot. Such a shot also has a high probability of killing the assailant, but the choice of shot is based not on the kill probability but rather its "stop" probability.
