Gay partners would enjoy many of the rights and responsibilities of marriage under hotly contested legislation approved Wednesday by the California Assembly.

The vote represents a major coup for gay-rights activists who have battled for years to increase recognition for more than 18,000 homosexual couples registered with the state as domestic partners.

Sigh. Lifelong Californian, never lived anywhere else.

Now I say...

GET ME OUT OF HEEEERE!

I hear Boise's really nice. I hear a far-right conservative like me would be an under-suspicion moderate in Boise. I want to go there.

"I hope that what happened to us opens eyes, minds and hearts," Ramos said. "No more families should be unprotected like we were."
Oh yeah; let's screw up the definition of THIS word too!

(Eyes, minds, and hearts aren't the ONLY things being opened up...)

Once again they're victimizing and using children to legitimize their immorality. It's a sad world. But don't stand up and say anything, Republicans. We wouldn't want it to cost us a vote or two.

Come join middle America where they're still in denial about this sort of thing. It's not a lot better, but we're not as far gone as California.

There's a difference between being in denial ("Problem? What problem?") and denying ("No sir, not here").

hmmm...you're right. I think it's the first one. While they're busy saying "what problem" they're also being desensitized and incrementally slaughtered. It's like the frog in a pot of water who doesn't realize the gradual increase in temperature until the water is boiling and he's dead.

Uhhh... I think California already recognizes marriages by people of the same species.

No, California is more specific about marriage than that, and is one of 37 states in the union to defend marriage, with Texas being the most recent to join the party.

We voted to pass Prop. 22 by a landslide in 2000. It states:

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

Meanwhile, the state is bleeding megabucks while these total a-holes in Sacramento sit around and pass legislation for homosexuals and try to force single-payer state operated medical insurance down our throats.

I have lived here for the past 33 years and will be retiring in 3 years. Sad to say that our plans to retire to the Palm Springs area will likely not come to fruition. We simply will not be able to afford to live in California.

I just received the registration renewals for our two cars. If the Dems push through the tripling of the vehicle license tax, my vehicle tax will INCREASE by $840 next year. Plus a half cent increase in the sales tax. Plus an increase in the income tax rates, and on and on.

By the way, UCLA just released their Anderson Economic Forecast yesterday. Whereas California's per capita income used to be 15% higher than the national average, it is now only 2% higher. At the same time, home prices and apartment rents are double the national average. The forecast pushes out the state's economic recovery until late 2004.

Thanks Joe Davis and your left wing Demo buddies in the legislature. RECALL - THE ONLY REVENGE!!!!

Really! I didn't know the gap had narrowed so much.

I hate to see conservative Californians leave for other states, leaving only the leftwing wackos to ruin the state, but the proposed tax increases on everything and the limits on freedom won't help stem the tide at all.

The problem is the state.

If the ba$tard$ legislators hadn't STOLEN so much of our money thru TAXES already, these fools would NOT be calmoring for 'relief' from thievery (fairness)!

Kalifornica is a lost cause. Grayout Davis is driving the state into the sewer, both morally and economically. It is going to get worse. The Kalifornica gov't schools are probably the most dangerous places for a child to be. So, you are wise to flee the state.

This stuff has been passing fast and in great numbers lately. I think they know Gray Davis is toast as are maybe their own legislative seats.
So I think they are giving away the state treasury in hope they maintain their power.
Been a drastic increase of this kind of law passing in the last month.

Don't forget that if you leave the state and sell your home, the state gets a percentage of your home's sale.

Believe me, they have you coming...and going!
