While I agree with most of what you said, David Gold has pretty low wattage in my book. He just doesn't seem particularly insightful, or even bright for that matter.

- Lee can get to ya too.. especially when he is off galavanting. Melanie's heart is in the right place and she has been very active in a number of good causes. ;-)
Yeah, Lee isn't perfect, but I'd still rather listen to him than Mrs. Swanson. I may even agree with her political views, but IMHO she's not good enough to be co-hosting such a featured show.
- I like Brian Sussman , the KPIX 5 weather dude, who fills in for Lee when he is away, all too frequently of late.
Me, not so much.
- Couldn't we get the Raelians to clone Jim Eason and do a 7x24 station with him instead?
Now, I CAN get behind that! I miss ol' Jim. Seems he used to get mighty perturbed at the technical glitches that interrupted his ISDN line from out there in North Kakkylakky, but I miss his mellow style. Must not have been "edgy" enough for the SF drive time slot.
- The weekend folks are great. The Babe in the Bunker, Barbara Simpson, David Gold and Mark Davis
I don't get much of a chance to tune in on weekends, but I like what I've heard from Barbara Simpson. Too bad she's relegated to a relatively minor timeslot. I used to find Clark Howard's advice a lot more informative than Dr. Laura's.
- The alternatives for sane Talk Radio in the Bay Area are limited, but I have found KNEW 910 to be a good place to hang out in the afternoons with Neal Boortz and Larry Elder.
I'll definitely be tuning in to check KNEW out.
- I have somewhat tired of Sean and the way they slice and dice his show around Dr. Laura, very messily done, imo. PS I wish Alan Colmes got married every week. (I don;t miss him at all!)
I can do without Dr. Laura and her hapless callers. Hannity may appeal to a younger demographic, but I find him so-so (like Sussman).
- Re: Savage, I can take him or leave him (he has the fastest caller cutoff button in the world), But I do admire his sticktuitiveness with respect to the Language, Border, Culture themes. I wish him well.
Yeah, I agree more with his message than with the messenger.

I have really come to enjoy David Gold's show (Freeper davidtalker) - he's very supportive of FR, as is Mel, Brian W, and Sean H from time to time. He subbed on KGO a few months ago, and REALLY got the leftists in a tiz. It was great fun to hear them. But he's sharp, knows his stuff, and challenges the leftists who call to defend their positions. His lines are always jammed, too - hard to get in to call.
And yes, if Dr. Laura actually ran a conservative issues show, I would listen.
As for Sussman, he's as conservative as they come. Sent his kid(s) to Hillsdale College in Michigan - one of the few colleges in the country that don't take government funds. It's a very conservative school (and NCAA Div II). They also homeschooled his kids.

Mel is also a long-time Freeper and a great supporter of Free Republic ... and the local Freeps.I know. I'm just being a jerk.
Anyone know if she's ever bothered posting here?

:-) Self-knowledge is a good thing. (I'm sorry, I've been hearing so much Martha Stewart news, I just can't help it.)
Yes, she has posted here, and has been generous with her time. In March 2001, she spoke at the Freeper brunch in Fresno that was broadcast on C-SPAN. I drove down there - Freeper Mediaqueen (who is a WIZ at organizing and presenting during Freeps - she is SHARP!) was there, too.
I can tell you with authority that she is earnest in her beliefs, and is a fine person. I obviously respect your radio tastes - we all have our cups of tea. Michael Savage isn't my cup of tea, but I don't begrudge his supporters their tastes, either.
As for Jack Swanson's politics, I understand that he is a liberal, but that doesn't stand in the way of his efforts to put - and keep - as solid a conservative lineup on KSFO as possible.
I didn't hear the morning show, but my officemate said that at about 6:15 this morning, Lee said he'd been receiving crazed emails protesting Savage's absence, and intimating there was a conspiracy of some sort. His response: "B***S**T! This is a business decision. And after I leave the studio, I listen to a few minutes of Rush, but don't listen for the rest of the day. It's a business!" Of course, that's paraphrased.
With few exceptions, radio programming decisions are not made by true believers.

I heard that as well. I understand what he's saying, but I think he's being a little less than honest when he intimates that he doesn't know whats going on. Whatever is happening appears to be pretty significant & you can bet they're all talking about it.

I didn't hear anything about Lee saying he didn't know what was going on ... I'm sure the major details are common knowledge within the station, but either there's a bunch of legalese and non-disclosure stuff that keeps them from discussing the details. Anyway, hosts are generally loathe to discuss other hosts - sometimes, if a caller starts ragging on Host B during Host A's show, Host A will say, "Well, call HIM!"
Even if they are allowed to discuss the details, it's way too "Inside Baseball" for an on-air topic. Anyway, I don't think the "technical difficulties" explanation by Savage on Monday was the best reason he could have come up with...

Look, I've got criticism for all the current hosts on KSFO. They've had the market cornered on conservative talk in the Bay Area for too long, the hosts are too comfortable IMO.
I hope KNEW's new format will stir things up a bit by offering an alternative.

I agree that the addition of KNEW will be positive for both stations - competition is a great thing. Also, it is a good sign that the market can bear more than one conservative station ... it takes us out of the "media fringe"! (Fringe, according to the leftists in the business)

I finally stopped listening to him a few weeks ago. I just couldn't stand him anymore. He's all of the rotten things you said he is, and more. He's incapable of having an actual discussion with anyone. The last straw was when he said Maurice Chevalier was a pervert for singing "thank heaven for little girls". That comment sickened me. After he repeated it the next day, I had had enough. He said that, huh? And exactly how many people called Mike to correct him, hmmm? One? Two? Five? Seventeen?
So why didn't you call?

What did it for me is when he compare those against abortion, to those against guns in the cockpit. What a dumb thing to say.
I had once heard of a woman who actually compared having an abortion to eating a hamburger. That's dumb!

I'm not all that fond of HannityI'm not big on Hannity either. Sometimes he is such an inept debater, I wonder whether he does more harm than good.

Your right that's dumb and gross.

ABC execs also fear that the Rush Limbaugh show, also owned by Clear Channel's Premiere, may move from KSFO to KNEW.I'm not up on all of these stations, etc. So, would that be bad if Rush moved from KSFO to KNEW? I don't really care what station/s he is on as long as he is on! :)
I've had my dial more-or-less glued to KSFO for several years now; but lately I've been spending more time with KNEW. If KNEW grabs Rush, this would (in my opinion), leave Lee Rodgers as the only heavy hitter on KSFO.

Re: KNEW, The toughest one for me to acquire a taste for is Neal Boortz.. I probably agree with him on less things then I do Savage, but he grows on ya, like fungus.
Thank goodness for my Grundig radio tho. I listened to a few minutes of Savage for old times sake.

I've met Savage and attended a dinner with him and about forty other listeners.
I talked with him. I listened to him.
Savage is the real deal. Completely. If it's an act, then it's Oscar worthy. No one is that effective an actor.
If you think he's over the top on radio, you should hear his opinions when he doesn't have to worry about what is said on the air.
Savage rules. He has exactly the right 'In Your Face', rabbit-punch to the guts, knee-in-the-balls, approach that is needed. You see, that's all the left understands.
Yeah, I like Rush and Hannity just fine. But they are far to polished and nicey-nice. That doesn't work with the left. The left is vicious, hate-filled, fascist, and dirty. You need someone like Savage who can give it right back to them.
Rush and Hannity play too nice. I'd much rather listen to Savage...
