WASHINGTON
(Excerpt) Read more at usatoday.com ...
You probably know a whole lot more about things in the mideast than the rest of us because you spend so much time watching tv news. And posting to FR.
I think Bush has some some good things, but in this or any past administartion, what you see isn't always what you are getting. YOu've gotten so caught up in cheerleading that you've lost any objectivity you might have once had to the point of not even recognizing yourself as a strict partisan. Oh well, time for me to go eat some supper.
I'm not interested in using this thread for off topic questions. The answer would be just as irrelevant to the thread as the question the other poster asked.
Message me if you want to know the answer to the off topic question.
You are too old to be a coward.
Ok, SLB, how 'bout a little cut and paste action? Since old election slogans have popped up on this thread, let me add:
"Where's The Beef?"
BL, I'm sure you have some homeboys knocking around Central Iraq, what are you hearing?
Once the operation began, the screeching rose in intensity, with stories of fierce and unexpected resistance from Saddam's faithful, of dissention in the ranks of the leadership over strategic decision making, and diplomatic bungling of the talks with Turkey. The criticism did not slow with the conclusion of hostilities, as was shown by the non event known as looting of the Iraqi National Museum.
Now that the process of rebuilding has begun, the peanut gallery is still hard at work, not offering mea culpas for their grossly inaccurate prewar assessments, but rather with renewed efforts to find some weakness in the administration's policies. There are no weapons of mass destruction they say (never mind the fact that these are the same weapons that the critics said were going to be used on us if we attacked), or the troops will have to be in place forever.
It's pretty obvious to me that the goal is simple criticism of Bush, regardless of what he does. How many of those who carp today would praise the President for "keeping his word" if we pulled out in six months and left Iraq a churning cesspool? I'm sure they would then switch gears and decry the horrible treatment of the innocent Iraqi population and the gutless lack of willpower on the part of Washington.
Let's face it folks, the axis of Buchananites, Naderphiles and the minions of Tom Daschle will never be satisfied. We Bushbots just can't see things clearly as they do, we cannot recognize the hidden hand of American hegemony, or the bungling ineptitude of the drunken frat boy (take you pick) that threatens the very fiber of our Republic.
I wonder what they're going to complain about after Iran and North Korea have shaken off their bonds of tyranny and joined the world of sanity?
Except in this case the general in question was testifying before congress. So unless you think lying to Congress is following orders, the general did the right thing.
That they want more cookies and snacks ... more CARE packages. Other than that, little else. They aren't even complaining about the heat, as it's not that much different than here at Fort Hood.
As always, soldiers raise the art of griping and complaining to a fine art. So it's hard for someone who has not been in the military to differentiate between normal grousing and b*tching and honest heartfelt complaints that actually refer to a problem. But the guys I've been "hanging out" with from 4ID, the 82nd, and the 101st .. (I don't know anyone in the 3rd ID) .. haven't said anything serious yet in regards to complaints about the situation there.
Also, anyone who makes an "anonymous" complaint deserves the derision that results. If someone .. particularly an NCO or an officer .. isn't willing to tie their name and reputation to an official complaint, then what they're complaining about ain't serious enough and they've simply shown themselves to be moral cowards.
Our troops are 'Over there' and they won't be back 'Till it's over over there!'
That's the long and short of it.
When has it not been like this?
It's been this way since I was born.
If it were suddenly not like this- it would be tatamount to the sun not coming up in the morning.
As long as our nation is threatened by Middle Eastern fanatical terrorism and as long as the world is dependent upon petroleum- we will be over there fighting for the very security of our nation and the world at large. There could not be a more fitting role for our military to play than fighting for the security of our home land and I'd much rather fight our enemies in their back yard than in ours or in one of our neighbor's.
As long as Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria et al exist we're going to be over there fighting at various levels of intensity. Iraq was just the opening act. The very last thing I want to see the military do is give up this newly conquered piece of territory. It is a key strategic piece of ground. We fought too hard for it to just leave now. It is the perfect place from which to conquer the rest of the region and it would be the height of folly to just give it up- democratic whiners and thumbsuckers notwithstanding.
That is the way I see it too!
Aren't too fond of the country, either.
Last I saw, the entire premise for third-party candidacies is to act as spoiler, and get a rotten person elected. Then, the logic goes, the electorate will crawl back to them on their knees.
This shows a willingness to encourage others' suffering for their own personal gain. Exactly what we detest in Democraps.
Absolutely right!
I think the press assured us that we'd win the war in 24 hours, and when it took just a little longer, we're in a quagmire.
Well, you're part of the quagmire crowd, and prancing around saying "I told you so, I told you so" may do wonders for your ego, but doesn't do much for me.
Keep rooting for failure. That's what the unloyal opposition always does.
