uh yeah... and i'll bet the guy doesn't remember much in his hazy UC Berkeley, fog-shrouded, smokey-Maui-Wowee-reverie...

"cool dude... there's a ring around the Moon man... heh heh... I wonder what the radius of that ring would be if it was actually around the moon"

"scary man, that ring would be about the distance from Tranquility Base to the Clarke TMA-1"

"we never landed on the moon man. That was another one of those dumb republican tricks in Hollywood man... don't you know???"

I don't want to minimize the threat posed by terrorism but government reports are a dime a dozen. That the government, which routinely turns out multiple volumes on the mating habits of the Speckled Wyoming Ground Clam, only has a four page report on the possibility of a nuclear attack may indicate that it's not being taken seriously.

Or thats not the case and we're in terrible danger.

One or the other.

"Who thinks it is a laughing matter?" -- Pan_Yans Wife

I certainly don't. But I find an annoying crowd of folks that applaud American government upon its foreign intervention policies critical to why America is all dumbed up into color books and interventionalist strategies all over the world. Yet, still no OBL and no SH and over one trillion dollars spent to catch these folks.

"But, we are winning the war on terror, not the war on drugs, right?"

Well, we sure as heck are not winning the war on drugs.

If we'ed stop waisting time and money on that, the states would have plenty to fight the war on terror with out extra money from the fed.

Thanks.

Most of it is not good, but now a surprise, except for this part, where they think AQ may actually set off a REAL nuke, not just a "dirty bomb".

"According to the report, al Qaeda and other terrorists also could produce what the CIA calls an "improvised nuclear device" capable of causing a nuclear blast.
Such a bomb is "intended to cause a yield-producing nuclear explosion," the report said.

Terrorists could produce a nuclear device in three ways, including a bomb made from "diverted nuclear-weapons components," a nuclear weapon that had been modified, or a new, indigenously designed device, the report said.
A homemade nuclear bomb would be one of two types: either an implosion device that uses conventional explosives to create a nuclear blast, or a "gun-assembled" device. Making a nuclear bomb would require that terrorists first obtain fissile material such as enriched uranium or plutonium as fuel for creating a nuclear blast. "

"Giving them a state, i.e. a country is stupid. This was to show how stupid it is to give terrorists, in the case of the Roadmap, the PLO, a state of "Palestine" which Bush intends on doing. Futhermore when another Palestine is created (the one now is Jordan) it will be a breeding ground for international terrorists who will flock there to train, etc. "

You're a little ignorant on the facts

A Palestine State was granted the same time Israel was granted a State.

A State/Country, i.e. a UN Member, who attacks another UN member isn't the same as a State attacking a bunch of thugs.

Think about where Bush is going with this - it's another win/win either way !

They couldn't have gotten them from Saddam, because he didn't have any WMD, right? Isn't that what the anti-war crowd has been telling us?

Well, one of the reasons to attack was to keep them out of enemy hands. If WMD did come from Iraq, then the war has at least one horrible failure.

Is it one trillion for Bin Laden and Hussein, or is that for the War on Terror, the defeat of the Axis of Evil?

I am not particularly fond of the color coded system, but I don't know that it is actually intended for someone like me, who tries very hard to keep up to date on the news... but for those that really do have a third-grade reading level, and who need to be coaxed into understanding that a threat could exist.

As for the interventionalist strategies, I think we should leave the UN, and arm ourselves against the EU! Better yet, just become true isolationalists and shut the borders. None of that will happen, though.

Maybe you haven't noticed...No terror strikes since 9/11/01 on USA soil. corny or not, the Gov has the obligation to report on what they perceive as ligimate intel. What is your solution?..being so quick to criticize the Bush administration and all.

I think that is flawed reasoning. It just proves that Saddam was supplying terrorists and would have given them more and better stuff if we left him in power.

CIA says al Qaeda ready to use nukes

"Overblown"

Being 1) 'ready and willing' to use them as opposed to 2) having them (nukes, etc.) in possession, on a platform, operational, ready to deliver are *two* distictly different things.

IF the intel on this is this good - then they've *got* to have a location pinned down in a hangar, on a tarmac or in a harbor somewhere - lacking that, this is only so much smoke/vaporware ...
