[history]
To certain critics of U.S. policy in Iraq, the only thing worse than going to war with Saddam Hussein is the fact that we won. This they can never forgive -- which is why they are now trying to make a war crime out of the fact that the allies haven't yet found caches of weapons of mass destruction.

The fact is that we went to Iraq not just to find Saddam's WMDs, but to find out what happened to them. If Saddam had destroyed them, he surely would have documented proof as to the disposition, don't you agree? And, he would have revealed the disposition, rather than risk attack. These guys documented everything. So, the WMDs have to be somewhere.

Thanks for the post and ping, BTN !
Whether or not WMD is found takes nothing away from the Iraq war victory. The allies liberated a country of 22 million people, rid the world of a terrorist ally and have begun a process that may well create a more stable and prosperous Arab world. The credibility gap lies with those who were opposed to achieving all of that.

Bush may be letting the cacophany reach it's crescendo before he lays the cards on the table and his cards will contain all aces; proof of Saddam's death, proof of blister agents, proof of nerve agents, proof of biological weapons (maybe even smallpox), and an unxpected wildcard; a nuclear weapons program that was close to producing a working nuke. <SARCASM>
Of course, we all know that this information was planted by the CIA anyway, so what's the difference?
</SARCASM>
Seriously, though, once something is found and independently verified, I expect it will be released unless the information found would compromise another investigation.

There is a game being played, but the game is winning the war on terror not maximizing the short-term domestic political advantage. As Sun Tzu described war is deception. When you are strong as we currently are you try to appear weak. By not using any of our intelligence abilities to immediately uncover the WMD our knowledge of what is happening appears weak and will embolden the Iranians who will be unaware of the true extent of our knowledge. Knowing far more about the enemy than they think you do will allow us a great advantage in the long run. President Bush and his team play to win for Americas long term strategic goals unlike the Democrats who would sacrifice the Country for a short-term political advantage. Just wait, the WMD will be located but the discovery will appear to be due to blind luck not because of our intelligence gathering capabilities.

In a rush to apportion political brilliance, I completely overlooked the strategic brilliance.

In other words, Bush Inc. may be letting the leftist politicians and media dig their holes a little deeper before the big finds are made. But the libs insist that W ain't all that bright. I say let them keep on thinking that.

For these opponents of war, it isn't enough that a tyrant and his psychopath sons have been deposed. It doesn't count that mass graves have been uncovered, that torture chambers have been exposed, or that Saddam's victims can speak freely for the first time in 30 years.
All those reasons are nice, but that's as irrelevant as the WMDs. The reason we went to war is that Saddam supported terrorist attacks against the US, period. End of story. This WMD crap is just a red harring for the Saddam sycophants.

the "no weapons were found" crowd are working themselves into a fevered pitcu- I am hoping W is about ready to sandbag them (once again) with proof.
He has done this over and over again, with great success. GO 'W'!!!
