Orlando group says Miami disabled woman will not abort fetus
MIAMI - (AP) -- An anti-abortion group claims it has convinced a retarded, deaf, seizure-prone and pregnant rape victim to have surgery to deliver her baby, even though her doctors received authorization from a judge last week to abort the fetus.
The Orlando-based Liberty Counsel, a group that defends religious civil liberties, made the announcement late Wednesday and called it a major victory in the ongoing debate over abortions.
''We're very excited and very pleased with the result,'' said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of the Liberty Counsel. ``We're very pleased that Baby Doe will have a chance at life now.''
Circuit Judge Arthur Rothenberg gave permission last week to doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital to abort the fetus, which is in its 24th week of development. The judge also authorized doctors to perform a tubal ligation so the woman can't become pregnant again.

I seen Nancy Skinner (whom I HATE) on Scarbour (sp) the other night and she was saying about the same thing. A judge ask the woman and her response was "My baby, no more." I think that could mean a whole linty of things.

That show REALLY infuriated me. I've noticed that is the ONLY transcript that didn't show up on Scarborough's transcript links. Could it be because the pro-baby killing "doctor" was trounced???

But Liberty Counsel attorneys said they convinced Rothenberg that the medical procedure planned for the abortion and ligation could also be used to perform a ''live birth.'' Rothenberg could not be reached late Wednesday to confirm the advocacy group's claim.
Police believe the woman, who has the cognitive skills of a 4-year-old, was likely raped more than once. The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, managed to tell Rothenberg her wishes during a hearing on May 22: ''My baby no more,'' she said.
Her attorney, Lewis H. Fogle Jr., could not be reached for comment early Thursday. The woman's mother had also asked Rothenberg to allow the abortion because she feared for her daughter's health.
There is still a 30 percent chance that the disabled woman's fetus could suffer from neurological deficits, Staver said.
''We would rather see the baby have a shot at life than have no shot at all,'' Staver said.
Medical officials have said the woman's life would be in danger if she carried the child to full-term. The fetus is also in serious risk of being deformed because of the woman's seizure medications, they said.

(checked, okayed, article posted in full. ) ;)
The spin on this article is sad. It says the Judge gave doctors permission to abort, and says the woman was in danger of dying from delivering, as well as a chance the baby could have been deformed.
I don't see ONE mention of the doctors CHOOSING NOT TO ABORT AS SCHEDULED because there was no danger at the time and the baby was developing normally!

Side note: I called the Miami Herald and told them their AP article didn't contain all the facts about WHY the Judge's ordered scheduled abortion was cancelled by the Doctors - which wasn't mentioned at all. That the baby was developing normally, and there was no immediate danger to the disabled woman.
The web rep I spoke with said they would pull the article, speak with their fact checkers, get the complete story and repost later. She said she didn't know any of that, and knew the story posted. We'll see what happens.

The baby murderers always justify it by greatly exaggerating the negative possibilities.

I sat here at my computer yesterday and prayed for that baby. Thank you, God for hearing us, your lowly servants.
Does anyone know what will become of the baby?
To: Blood of Tyrants
I agree. This case and the other case in FL involving a raped, disabled, pregnant woman were causing them to celebrate. They finally had REAL stories to back up their claims that abortion is needed for rape victims, AND when the mother's heatlh is at risk.
This victory - for the BABY - is a double whammy for them. They lose on both counts.

The following is a graphic illustration of how much the verbiage of the death promoters has dominated the debates ... even the pro-life spokesperson makes the error of accepting the specious notion that Baby Doe's life will begin with birth
: ''We're very excited and very pleased with the result,'' said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of the Liberty Counsel. ``We're very pleased that Baby Doe will have a chance at life now.'' That sounds sadly too much like 'Baby Doe will now get born and thus have a chance at life, as if Baby Doe is not alive yet but will become so upon birth.
Freepers already consider me a fanatic, so I'm sorry to have to be so blunt, but that kind of slip (as illustrated above) adds weight to the specious notion foisted by the abortion proponents, the notion that an embry or fetus is not fully alive until birth, yet science is very clear that such is not the case, the individual aliveness is not lessened by location, nor is it strengthened by location. The strawman arguments have weedled their way into our reasoning, even.

the woman, who has the cognitive skills of a 4-year-old... ''My baby no more,'' What four year old girl would want to kill a "baby"? By saying what she did, she clearly indicated that she understood there is a baby in there, not just some "growth".
