Orlando group says Miami disabled woman will not abort fetus
MIAMI - (AP) -- An anti-abortion group claims it has convinced a retarded, deaf, seizure-prone and pregnant rape victim to have surgery to deliver her baby, even though her doctors received authorization from a judge last week to abort the fetus.
The Orlando-based Liberty Counsel, a group that defends religious civil liberties, made the announcement late Wednesday and called it a major victory in the ongoing debate over abortions.
''We're very excited and very pleased with the result,'' said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of the Liberty Counsel. ``We're very pleased that Baby Doe will have a chance at life now.''
Circuit Judge Arthur Rothenberg gave permission last week to doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital to abort the fetus, which is in its 24th week of development. The judge also authorized doctors to perform a tubal ligation so the woman can't become pregnant again.

A quote from the link you posted (and thank you for posting it, too)
: "Giving birth, then, is the way rape victims seek to reclaim their self-esteem. It is a totally selfless act, a generous act, especially in light of the pressure to abort. Its a way for them to display their courage and strength to survive even a rape."
Rape is a crime committed against a person. Giving birth to the rare child conceived in such a crime, affirms the lifetime of a fellow human being who had no choice in the means by which she/he came into being. Protecting and thus affirming life for a little one is not so much a choice as it is a blessing ... and blessing others yields blessing to the blesser. [Incidentally, my blessed Mother gave birth to me on August 5, 1945 due to being raped. I would challenge anyone to prove my genes are faulty or that my Mother 'made a bad choice'. My son and my beautiful granddaughter wouldn't be, were it not for the blessing my Mother conveyed to me in her womb.] 'Choose Life', the alternative is a killer.

So...you like to see kids suffer?So...your answer to suffering is to kill them all just so you won't have to see it?

Raymond was autistic. Autism is not automatically a predicter of retardation and certainly not a proof of suggestibility, as my very smart and willful little nephew proves in his autism. Citing script-asserted autism implying relevance to this retarded woman is obfuscation. You are obfuscating, plusone is baiting and switching (a used car sales sleaze term).

Yes, it is. Either a few weeks of gestation, or several decades of suffering. Tough choice... So why aren't you out killing disabled people. They'd be better off dead, right?
To: cgk
Right. I guess I should be whacked immediately, because I have MS You're on the list. I might be too because I have RA. But I've just begun taking a new drug that has eliminated my symptoms. Maybe I'm safe now. Glad I wasn't whacked before these new drugs came on line.

Because a woman might not want to carry to full term a child that bears the inferior genetics of a rapist. Should parents be given the option of killing their children with "inferior genetics"?
Inquiring Nazis want to know.
To: LanPB01
Actually, I agree with you. It is cruel to the extreme to require a woman to carry her rapist's child to term. Thankfully, the so-called "morning after" pill is routinely administered to rape victims, thereby preventing the implantation of any conceived child. The woman will never know if she was pregnant, because the child (if conceived) is aborted before her next period. Considering that many pregnancies end this way naturally (I have read as many as 50%), this is the kindest thing all around.
To: LanPB01
As to what should be done with the unborn child, I'll leave that decision to the mother. What about giving the baby a voice in the matter? After all, he's the one that's going to be dismembered. Just a thought.
To: Aquinasfan
Because they are already here. Since I don't believe that 'humanity' begins with conception then terminating a sick pregnancy before the onset of the second trimester, in my worldview, is not murder. (Your view is that life begins with conception. That is fine with me, I don't claim to have some great secret supply of truth)

So...you like to see kids suffer? No. That's why all suffering children should be killed.
I don't want to put too fine a point on it, but your ethics are satanic.

Murder. The Kindest Thing All Around Suit yourself. However, I am sure I don't have to remind you that it is absolutists like you who drive people into the "pro-life" camp. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that you are RIGHT!
