Burkas on Wednesdays |
Welcome to Burkas on Wednesdays. Wednesday May 28, 2003 Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data. Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks. We have links, lots of them.
Burka
A burka, burqa or burqua, also called chador, is women clothing covering the whole body, including the whole face. The eyes are covered with a 'net curtain' allowing the woman to see while other people can not see the eyes. It is used by some Moslem women and was compulsory under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. In the Netherlands a few students wanted to wear it in school, but this has been forbidden because the school educates for professions where non-verbal communication, also through facial expression, is required. See also Life under Taliban rule.

Eek a mouse! Sorry, Junior, but we're not going to fall for that old chestnut. We know elephants aren't really afraid of mice. So what did cause the 1-month-old baby to get all all bug-eyed? The Toledo (Ohio) Zoo isn't saying.

Who you gonna call when a 10-foot alligator crawls into your backyard in Bluffton, S.C.? Well, Joe Moffo and Critter Management, of course. Joe has this fellow neatly wrapped and ready for a ride his pickup.
