My Leo is a hero

I know alot of people have no room in their heart for Police Officer's and in a strange way, I understand that sometimes but before anyone makes a final judgement on all police officer's, please allow me to tell you my side of this debate.

I have been married to a police officer for twelve years....some good and some bad. He has seen some of the most tragic and de-humanizing sides of people and he has seen the best as well. He is the kind of police officer to stop at the house of a lonely elderly man who just lost his wife. He is the kind of police officer who will take the time to fix the mailbox for a family who can't afford to get it fixed for themselves....of course, he does this on his own time and with his own money.

He is the kind of police officer who cried at the drowning of a two year old little girl. This happened while I was pregnant with our son and to this day, he refuses to get a swimming pool. He is the kind of police officer who will drive a man to a hospital where his wife is fighting for her life and it doesn't matter how long it takes or how long he has to wait.

He is an excellent father to his son, he is an excellent husband to me and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for his entire family. His father is disabled and whenever he needs my hero, he is there.

My husband has been called just about every bad word you could think of......his patience has been put to the test.....and yet, he has this quality about him of never letting his anger get the best of him. His ability to stay in control in some of the worst circumstances is mind blowing and the respect he has of his junior officers is well known.

Am I biased? You damn right I am....police officer's don't get good quality press time. In fact, the only time cops get press time is when something has gone wrong. The press isn't interested in the truth about police officers....it's better stories for them! Al Sharpton and his cronies are the first to appear in front of a camera when a black person is killed at the hands of police officers and they aren't interested in the whole truth. It doesn't matter to them! Look at Tawana Brawley, this happened in my own back yard and the lives he ruined are just casualties in his quest for top black leader!

So, when you accuse all cops of being looters, murderers and whatever else you can come up with, please have the common courtesy of knowing all of the facts before you make final judgements. That is my hero you are talking about!!!

God bless you and your husband. We may disagree about the policies in law enforcement, but we must remember not to take out our differences on the mostly good men and women who are our policemen.

NYPD To Reduce Police Force Through Retirements, Not Layoffs

The NYPD will soon have its smallest number of officers in a decade, but department officials said Thursday the reduction in the size of the police force will come through attrition instead of layoffs.

NY1's Police Reporter Andrew Siff explains.

The NYPD may not see any new police recruits until at least July of 2004.

Officials told NY1 that the city may postpone hiring 700 police officers this summer and instead allow the ranks to shrink to below 33,000 next year. That's a nearly 8,000 officer drop from the summer of 2001 when the size of the NYPD peaked at 40,800.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says there's a reason the number of officers will be at a 10-year low: these days, the NYPD only graduates one new class per year instead of the traditional two.

“We attrite officers literally every day,” Kelly said Thursday. “You hire at only one time during the year, and for the rest of that year your headcount decreases."

Kelly said that a huge number of retirements – an anticipated 4,000 this fiscal year – will allow the NYPD to meet the mayor's budget orders and slash $300 million from the budget without layoff officers, but only "with great difficulty.”

Kelly said the mayor has pledged not to lay off any uniformed officers. However, he said the department may cancel its next scheduled graduating class.

Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch said about 3,600 officers on the street have already left in the last couple of years, some of them leaving the city for higher paying jobs at suburban departments and at the Port Authority.

Lynch said officers can't keep working overtime on counter-terrorism posts and keeping conventional crime down if the force keeps shrinking.

"We are not going to have enough police officers to man the radio cars, the precincts, and to man those security posts,” Lynch said.

But Kelly stresses crime has continued to drop.

Meanwhile, a police watchdog group, the Citizens Crime Commission, said, much like in the 1980s, a commuter tax could help avoid cuts to the police force

"Now we are taking a leaf out of that book and recommending that the old commuter tax be restored that money be dedicated to public safety and police, fire and probably some emergency health programs,” said Thomas Reppetto of the Citizens Crime Commission.

Albany has balked at the proposed commuter tax. But City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. said Albany shouldn’t turn its back.

"We need our money from Albany to fund our police,” Vallone said. “It’s imperative that we get it."

Instead, what the city is getting is a smaller police force, at a size New Yorkers haven't seen since crime was high.

You have lied about me.

By asking you what you meant by your malicious and demented charge that America is a "police-state"? Just who is behind this nefarious conspiracy? Space aliens? Masons? Little green elephants?

"That is my hero you are talking about!!!"

Sounds like he's a peace officer instead of the more commonly called "law enforcer." We need more like him.

Tell him to not stay in the cop business too long. It has a corrupting effect.

According to Roscoe, Buckeroo laments the world is, "Run by the Joos and the Illuminati? On top of all that, Buckeroo is told to sober up."

Yes, what you say is true. The left and right side of the political spectrum, want to use the law to mold society as they see feet. In reality, the law is there to set boundaries, and make them straight and easy to follow. The current line we are to follow, is so convoluted, they could arrest anyone for something, at any time.

Still waiting on why you decided I don't have a clue.

Wondering why Dallas and NYC both have programs for civilian observers.

Are you afraid to admit you're wrong? Or do you simply like to make a short statement without follow-up to the person you put down?

"So for $60,000,000 (sounds like a lot, but...) you could have three meter maids just ride around the city and write people checks for what they lost to robbers, and fire the one third of cops that should be handling that one third of crime, and NYC would save a little over $1 BILLION dollars. The $60M to compensate victims is insignificant. "

I think you've lost your mind unless you're investing in a new crime fraud business.

Hey I just lost a grand to some mugger. Can I get my check now?

What you find hard to believe is irrelevant.

I'm telling you what happened.

The cops sat outside doing absolutely nothing. In fact, they tried to stop the medics from coming in my house.

To add insult to injury, the first cop who did manage to waddle his fat ass through my door took one look at my gun cabinet and said to me: "I'd take every one of these right now if it were up to me."

Who knows. Maybe your old man is one of those rare cops who is actually worth a tinkers damn. I don't know. I've never met him. All I can tell you about is the cops I have met, and by and large they couldn't manage a beer fart in a whirlwind.

All they're good for these days seems to be shoving plungers up immigrants rectums, scaring old ladies to heart attacks, and shooting 12 year olds in the back as they cower on their floors.

I run the Neighborhood Watch on my block and we've done more to run the dope dealers and gang bangers out of our neighborhood on our own than the entire Police Department of my town. We quit inviting them to our meetings because they have all the usefulness of tits on a bull.

I don't know where you live, but in my neighborhood, all the cops want to do is get through their shift with the absolute minimum amount of paperwork so they can get their pension.

Call a cop, then call Dominoes. See who gets there first.

Where I live, the cops are full time. The paramedics are volunteers.

So, in a manner of speaking it was the militia who was more willing to go through the door first.

Take that.

They beat the cops through the door.

I find that more amazing. It's kind of sad that you don't.

Paramedics-volunteers.

Cops-full time government employees.

Crime victim bleeding on his couch. Who got there first?

Who was hiding behind their Crown Vics and who went through the door. Enquiring minds want to know.

The best part was when the dispatcher asked me to walk out into my front yard because the cops were 'concerned for their personal safety'. That was rich...

Call a cop. Then call Dominoes. See who gets there first.

Later.

Maybe the cops are like that in your town. Maybe they're like that in more than a few towns. The fact is, they're still people.
This is like blaming the Catholic church for homosexuals molesting children trusted to their care. It happens because priests are human. Humans screw up. Constantly.
That doesn't make everyone guilty. I don't like the WOD any more than you do, and I'm not going to be an apologist for rogue police
but just because some people screw up doesn't make them all guilty.
