Coulter: Bush Got into Harvard, Sulzberger was Rejected
When Bush-hating Maureen Dowd sneered that President Bush only got into Yale because his father was a Yale graduate, giving him a leg up because he was a "legacy," she attracted the attention of "Slander" author and conservative columnist Ann Coulter - a very dangerous thing to happen to a liberal like Dowd, already in hot water for deliberately misquoting the president and altering the meaning of what he said.
Noting that the increasingly shrewish Miss Dowd had also sneered at the White House explanation that Bush got into Harvard Business School despite the fact that his father had not gone there, (Dowd claimed that the Bush name was legacy enough), Miss Coulter turned the tables by citing the failure of Dowd's boss, Arthur (Pinch) Sulzberger of Jayson Blair notoriety couldn't win admission to Harvard even though, like Bush he bore a famous name as a member of the family that has controlled the New York Times for almost a century and-a-half, or even to Columbia University where he was a legacy.
Coulter summed up "(Those must have been some low SAT scores.) Maureen might want to stay mum on the subject of dumb rich kids, at least for the next three or four decades."

Columnist Biography: Maureen Dowd
aureen Dowd, winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary, became a columnist on The New York Times' Op-Ed page in 1995 after having served as a correspondent in the paper's Washington bureau since 1986. She has covered four presidential campaigns and served as White House correspondent. She also wrote a column, "On Washington," for The New York Times Magazine.
Dowd joined The New York Times as a metropolitan reporter in 1983. She began her career in 1974 as an editorial assistant for The Washington Star, where she later became a sports columnist, metropolitan reporter and feature writer. When the Star closed in 1981, she went to Time magazine.
Born in Washington D.C., Dowd received a B.A. degree in English literature from Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) in 1973.

Close....lol
Born in Washington, D.C., on January 14, 1952, Miss Dowd received a BA. degree in English literature from Catholic University (Washington) in 1973.
Anyone out there have any contacts at Catholic U to find out her SAT scores and academic record?

Who cares what they are? Ann Coulter showed her up.
To: TLBSHOW
This is the 2nd time Ann Coulter has used this SAT Strategy, just as good either time.
The other use was in the book Slander where she describes a situation in the 2000 presidential primaries. The 3 main candidates were Bush, Gore, and Bill Bradley. Bradley had a long career in the US Senate where he had developed a rep as being intelligent, Sometimes you could almost thing his first name was "intelligent". The "Intellectual" Bill Bradley etc.
Anyway, to embarress Bush, some columnist looked up the SAT scores of Bush, Gore & the "Cerebral" Bill Bradley. Turns out Gore WAS highest, but not by much. Bush was not far behind. The "Intelligent" Bill Bradley was 3rd, and a distant 3rd at that -- Just a dumb jock really.
The "Intelligent" Al Gore of course had very mediocre college grades and then flunked out of divinity school. Bush's grades were better, and he went on to earn his Master's Degree.

Funny, Dowd doesn't look shrewish, sewer ratish, yes, but shrewish?

Please Maureen, skip the homone replacement therapy and just toddle off into Helen Thomas land....., you'll feel right at home.
To: Lawdoc
After Gore flunked out of Divinity school, he tried his hand at law school, officially, he dropped out to run for office, but his grades were certainly not that well to begin with in Law School, its hard to say, if he would have failed out, or not, since he was sporadically attending classes, and trying to decide if he would run for office or not. In the end, he dropped out and ran and won office.

Bill Bradley's Verbal SAT was 430 - quite below average. His inability to respond spontaneously/extemporaneously to AlGore's one-on-one debate hyberbolic and totally dishonest tirades during the 2000 Democrat Primary debates caused me to question Dollar Bill's ability to formulate his thinking. He appeared pensive, taking a long time to answer, but then responded with mush. Gore's handlers obviously knew how he would react to outlandish charges and used it to AlGore's advantage. Bradley was a basketball star at Princeton (understatement) and was chosen to be a Rhodes Scholar - based on academic and demonstrated leadership qualities. To his credit, he must have really "hit the books" to do as well as he did - a real plugger, certainly a worthy trait. He's one of those guys who looks smart, but just ain't. I like him and would like him to be on my team in any endeavor.
