June 2 issue Its a landmark in the history of strange bedfellows: Tom DeLay says kaddish. It happened last February, the day the space shuttle Columbia fell apart. Among the dead astronauts was an Israeli, Ilan Ramon. In Florida, at the Boca Raton Resort, some big machers had gathered to hear a speech by House Republican leader DeLay, an evangelical Christian from Sugar Land, Texas. Mixing Churchill and the Bible, DeLay talked of a destiny shared by America and Israel. He asked for divine assistance in protecting both. In closing, to the astonishment of his audience, he recitedin Hebrewthe last lines of the Jewish prayer for the dead. The crowd, many in tears, joined in. (DeLay had been coached by a Jewish former staffer.) It was quite a moment, said Jack Abramoff, a lobbyist who was there. |

Looks like some people aren't happy that some jews and Christians are seeing eye to eye. Notice this article was written by very liberal jews who can't stand the fact that some of their fellow jews are getting off the plantation.

Sucks for them

How do they explain support because it is simply the right thing to do? I am dismayed at the lengths people go to cast about for "reasons".

Strange bedfellows indeed. Jews consider evangelicals to be stupid and frequently say so. Evangelicals consider Jews as condemned to hell (unless they stop being Jews). Israel is as touchy about missionary groups in Israel as are Arab nations.

All during world history, people have "hated" other people. In early Church history, the Jews murdered the Christians. Then the Romans murdered the Jews and dispersed them throughout the world. Then Christianity gained the ascendency and killed Jews again. However, in my opinion, the movement and it's actions bear no resemblance to Christianity.
For many years, Evangelical Christianity, in my opinion, genuine Christians, have supported the Nation of Israel because they believe it is their home; given to them through Abraham by God and that God still has a very personal relationship with His covenant people. It's as simple as that. And we love the Jews because we are commanded to love all men, but even more so because our Redeemer is Jewish and so were those who spread and established our Faith.
