I notice the guy posting the scores so glowingly in Sorenstam's favor yesterday and earlier today suddenly disappeared at the precise moment she started coming apart Teacher317 said she had to leave for a tutoring session -- I believe this was while Sorenstram was either -1 or even for the round.

See the post directly above yours.
It seems to be working both ways. :)

It seems to be working both ways. :) Oh, I know it does. It simply seems to me that people can not disagree without assigning devious motives to it.

So, other than meeting whatever personal standards she set for herself, what "incredible strain" could she possibly experience? I believe that you've never played golf for money or pride, otherwise you'd understand. Have you?
To: jackbill
Back to name calling.
Okay how did you get the name jackbill? One too many downloads from the net?

Yeah she played good. The only thing I'm saying is, Why is everything having to be handed to someone today?
Why if she is so good, didn't she have to go through qualifing?
This was a stunt. And that was all.

Victors? Are you suggesting that you somehow 'won' something, and are therefore not of a mood to address the outright lies you've posted on this forum?

Annika is a great womens professional golfer. She is a mediocre mens professional golfer.
To: discostu; an amused spectator
Discostu, I do understand. When some idiot draws one into a running argument on these threads, it can be most difficult to find a graceful way to exit. It might help to bear in mind that turning reason on its head is the weapon of choice for certain types of personalities. There is no reasoning with such people because their whole point is to argue, sneer, and amuse themselves by drawing others into their tit-for-tat games.
"Spectator," no, I am not now nor have I ever been a golfer. However, the premise of your question is one that I agree with that the experience of feeling pressure comes mostly from within and is based on whatever standards of performance one holds oneself up to. If Ms. Sorenstam (sp?) is content with her own performance, that's all that should matter to her. My interest in all this was political, in that I am a woman who absolutely hates the notion that the whole world should gush every time a woman chooses to compete against men.

Sponsors exemptions have been part of the PGA since before WWII. Just something to keep in mind, there are rules surrounding them, some people think they shouldn't go to some of the people they go to (like Sorentam, also like Arnold Palmer), but within the structures of the PGA rules nothing more was handed to her than the other 7 sponsors exemptions who started the tournament Thursday (they're listed somewhere in the thread).
Of course it was a stunt. But that isn't all it was. Stunts are an important part of sport, stunts are an important part of merchandising, stunts are an important part of media. To a certain degree ALL sports are stunts, you have people competing within certain boundaries and structures for the entertainment of other people. But there's a level below that which is the essence of sports, it's about achievement and effort and struggle.

Yeah I have a hard time walking away from things, in normal life this is good it give me an ability to rise to most any challenge and finish most any job. In internet debating country no so good for me.
We gush over women competing against now because it's rare, it's unique and it's spectacle, and there is that step up thing with is always more interesting in sport. I support women's athletics because it's athletics not because it's women, I'm a sport junkie and the more sports going the better. And I don't have a sliding scale, I don't like the WNBA because they play lousy basketball, I dig women's Olympic/ National hockey because they play good hockey. I don't think most of the people in the pro-Sorenstam camp were into any feminist agenda, at least I saw none of it on FR, they were interested in somebody trying to go beyond themselves and the gender was unimportant beyond how it made the situation unique.

My belated thoughts...
Annika acquitted herself well; these two rounds were about as good as she could've hoped to play. And she did so with class and dignity. So she certainly wasn't embarrassed as some have claimed on this thread.
What we now know is that the best woman golfer in the world, playing on a course she chose, and at the top of her game, ended up toward the bottom of the pack. It seems to me the issue of whether women can compete on the PGA Tour is a dead one - they cannot. Even on a short course Sorenstam couldn't place the ball in a position to have a legitimate run at many birdies. Longer courses would only exacerbate that problem.
Incidentally, Bank of America made out like a bandit last week. Whoever made the call to allow Annika in should get a nice bonus...

No the projected cut after 1 was +1, right off the PGATour site. Not that you would check anything being a well known BSer. The cut is 70+ ties at the end of one +1 was a huge tie for 65th. Actually, the other poster is correct. A 71 on Thursday resulted in a tie for 72nd place.
To: discostu
Oops! I meant to state 73rd place on my previous post. My source is the top of this thread...

"
Even Hank Kuehne, who is the longest driver in the PGA, has finished 2nd and 3rd this year, but does not currently have a card?"
Yes, he does. Therefore ineligible for a sponsor's exemption.
To: Labyrinthos
Have a great round of golf tomorrow with your lady friends. I'm sure you'll still be playing with your balls tomorrow night -- by yourself. You computer nerds crack me up. Face it: You drew a line in front of an impossible position. I couldn't care less wheter you admit that you were wrong, but there is no need for you to keep drawing attention to that fact. You wanted women and men to be physically equal, and they're not. Live with it.

Um, if she played the first round in +1, her expected second round of +1 would have given her a cumulative score of... let's see... hmmmmmm... what is 1 + 1 again?

Victors? Are you suggesting that you somehow 'won' something, and are therefore not of a mood to address the outright lies you've posted on this forum? You losers took it to heart and made it personal very early on. If you can't deal with being show you're wrong, find another thread.
Sheesh, some of you idiots were suggesting who could WIN the thing a week ago.

like Sorentam, also like Arnold Palmer Arnold Palmer did not receive a "sponsor's exemption" for the one and only event he played in this year. As a matter of fact, that even had no sponsors.

I dig women's Olympic/ National hockey because they play good hockey Women's ice hockey is without question less entertaining than even women's basketball. Checking is illegal, man.
And, yes, you did embrace the feminist agenda. With relish.
