Norway should have been included in a threat attributed to the al-Qaeda network broadcast on Al-Jazeera television on Wednesday.
The hope of the authorities was that al-Qaeda simply got their geography wrong and did not mean to threaten Norway at all
The threat from what is said to be the al-Qaeda network has baffled authorities and people here alike. Analysts are struggling to come up with any reasons why Norwegian embassies and interests abroad should be singled out for attacks from Muslim fundamentalists.
Norway has traditionally been seen as a peacemaker in the Middle East and the country protested against the war in Iraq.
The government has also been critical of aspects of Washington's declared war on terror.
Awaiting instructions
One possible reason which has been put forward is the presence of Norwegian special forces in Afghanistan, but this is a small force and other countries have a much more pronounced presence there.
Norway's diplomatic efforts in the Middle East is considered a welcome activity by most of the Arab world and not a root cause for Muslim anger.
The threat is being taken seriously, however, and Norwegian interests abroad are awaiting instructions from Oslo about any possible extra security measures to be taken.
The hope of the authorities, as expressed by one diplomat, was that al-Qaeda simply got their geography wrong and did not mean to threaten Norway at all.

hahaha.. Norway learns the hard way, these extremists don't care... you're white, your european decent, with western values... you are guilty for that reason alone. There is no middle ground, you are either an extremist muslim, or a potential target.

Just as it was with Mohammed himself, get your mind right or die. Islam is the religion of satan himself.

Norway is full of "pakis" (slang word for Pakistani's). They're getting their share of Muslims as well and they don't like them much.

Normans were from Normandy,France and not Norway. Al-Queda should be mad at France not Norway. True, but only part of the truth. The Normans (North Men) were in that part of France because in earlier generations Vikings (Norsemen = North men) had conquered it.
Thus, you later have a french colony in North America named Quebec, which can be traced to the Norse word for River (After the St. Lawrence River).

You're correct. Norway is not at all happy about the influx of Muslim immigrants. I can't tell you how many times I've been over there and had some Norwegian yell at me about how racist America is, and then launch into a tirade about how much he hates Muslim immigrants. It's hilarious.

If the Islamofascists were attacking countries on the basis of who has more attractive women then they do then no country would be safe.

Normans were from Normandy,France and not Norway. Al-Queda should be mad at France not Norway. Yes, but keep in mind that Normandy was named for the Norsemen from Norway who settled there over 1,000 years ago. And that in 1066 the Normans also took over in England, and their descendants comprise much of the aristocracy of Great Britain. Add to that the fact that settlers from Great Britain colonized the part of North America that later became the United States, and you've got the top two nations of the coalition of the willing tied up in it.
Just an anti-western conspiracy, that's all. The US and UK are the primary infidels, but Norway started it all.

Exactly. And that, despite so much shaudenfreude around the world, is why the US was picked..we are economically sound, productive, strong, we enjoy life and we are not Muslim.

The guvmint officials of Norway need to read "Hatred's Kingdom", a history of
Wahhabism by former Israeli diplomat Dore Gold.
The aim of Osama (and his fellow travelers) is to go after non-Muslims.
And after that...after those "moderate" Muslims that Wahhabists despise.
Hear that "Moderate" Muslims...you're next!
Have FUN!!!

It is probably related to Iraq as Norway expelled Mullah Krekar that was the leader of Ansar al-Islam, the Iraqi-based militant Islamic group suspected of having with links to al-Qaeda.

But let's say Norway is targeted for it proposing "peace." Norway was instrumental in kicking off the "peace process", and Terje Larsen, the UN special envoy to the ME, is Norwegian. He's now deeply involved in the "roadmap" obscenity.
That would probably be enough to set these critters off, but in addition Norway has been involved in Afghanistan both with special forces and air-force. The first Norwegian bombing run got a bit of media coverage, including publishing the pilot's name, the names and location of his family, and pictures from his hometown.
To top it off, Mullah Krekar, the leader of the al-quaida-connected group annihilated in northern Iraq, lives in Norway and is, I think, trying to escape prosecution.

So, Norway is too neutral for muslims. And if terror works to make Norway attack America, then why not.
