MY AMAZING ABILITY TO FORETELL THE FUTURE: President Bush's new appointee will be grilled in the Senate over global warming, and the Dems will make a big issue out of it if they don't say the "right" things or if they have any history of expressing doubts about it. Global warming is going to become to EPA appointees what abortion is to the Federal Court appointees.

Bush will be under pressure to replace Whitman with a nominee who will be acceptable to his GOP supporters without alienating swing voters. No perceptible bias at AP, I see.

Now to just shut down the EPA, whose main tenet these days is to unconstitutionally force socialist laws and behaviour on US citizens.
Environmental justice, created in an executive order by clinton, and implemented by the EPA is one of the _biggest_ threats to freedom and property rights in this country today.
Just abolish the dang EPA and save our rights.

This has got to be a first (and the lamest excuse ever): I have never heard anyone from New Jersey say they love the place.

The environmental group Friends of the Earth wasted little time in urging her to resign, saying that her credibility has been undermined. Another illustration of why it never pays to appoint a squishy Republican. The left will attack no matter what so the best course is to appoint someone who does something to deserve the hits.

Whitman had been the administration's point person in rolling back environmental protections initiated by previous administrations. No bias here! It's debatable that much of what CLinton did helped the environment. Second, there's no evidence that Bush has not protected the environment in a responsible way. Bah!

I wouldn't read too much into these resignations or any yet to come.
Those in the upper political strata are not happy for long stuck in one spot, even more so if it's bureaucratic and/or mundane in nature.
Obviously, no one will resign from a presidential appointment during a war. Now that the "hot" part of the war is basically over, I'm not surprised to see Whitman's or Ari's resignation announcements. They stuck with their jobs till it became acceptable to depart.
The desire for a change of pace and new challenges is not unusual in the world of political professionals.
